Just for the sake of bias, I think MS Dhoni could have done it easily here if he was batting in the first innings ;)

Yeah I think Gibbs could have done it easily, because when he fell, there were still 19 overs left in the game, more than enough time to get 25 runs. But of course, he was playing for the match situation which demanded boundaries and risks almost every ball.

I'm not taking any credit away from him, he's a tremendously talented batsman, a batsman worthy of averaging 51 in Test cricket? I don't think so, but he's very entertaining. That innings may have come against a decent bowling attack, but it was on a pitch that produced over 1000 runs in the 2 sides First Innings. I'm just saying if he's ever going to score a double ton in an ODi he'll need a very flat pitch and some poor bowling, anyone would.
Even though I agree that inning wasn't the finest or played against great bowling, you really are taking credit away by saying that he 'slogged' his way to a triple. It takes tremendous focus and concentration to reach such a milestone and the man has done this more than once, not to mention a double against the two Ms in Sri Lanka.

Feel like I'm taking this off topic now, but just wanted to say its unfair to say it was slogging. Afridi making 150 against India was a slog, that triple wasn't.

Oh definitely. I somewhat remember watching that match worried that such an amateur batsman (which is what he was back then) would surpass one of my favorite player's record.

Anwar made that 194 at a time when I was cooped up in a filthy motel in Islamabad waiting to hear from the American embassy and watching that inning really lifted my spirits. If anyone should've made 200 it was Anwar right then and there. I hated Ganguly for a long time for making that incredible catch (hurting himself in the process) :p. I was also impressed by Indian players giving him his due accolades as he walked off. It really sent a message when the tensions between the two nations were as bad as they are now. I really don't want anyone to surpass him in my lifetime.

It's only a matter of time though...

Well yes of course. Records are made to be broken. Just that some records are held dear by some of us and we don't like to see them being overtaken. Doesn't mean I wouldn't give the player that surpasses Anwar due credit, just that I don't want to see it happen.

I can see where you're coming from. Many Indian Fans (Including me), don't want Ricky Ponting to surpass Sachin Tendulkars Test Runs. But when he does surpass I'll have to give him a lot of credit and acknowledgement for achieving such a great feat.

That's why Tendulkar's still going, he should just keep battling until he outlasts Ponting. I'd rather have Tendulkar at the top tbh. He won't have to go on much longer though, when England smash Australia in The Ashes and he gets sacked as captain he'll be dumped from the side and have to retire from international cricket ;)

^^ Lol @Godfather ;), Shreyas you got him :D

Sehwag, Hussey , Dhoni for me they have the capability :hpraise

No that was not sarcasm. The previous sentence is sarcasm. That'll make it easy for everyone :p.

Lol! Maybe not many can recognize the 'roll eyes' smilie. Sorry GF, I don't want to be rude.

I don't think you can necessarily predict from which country said player is going to hail from, since the day it happens will be one of those once-in-a-lifetime kind of days for that player. I do think it will be achieved in WC2011 when one of the powerhouses play one of the minnows.
