MMA/UFC Thread

Penn just shouldn't be fighting at that weight. Kind of expected tbh. Not an enjoyable fight to watch, fight before it was good though :D Shame, I wanted to see Thiago Silva win. Anyway the next one will be on at a reasonable time so it's all good. :D

Machida deserves a shot at Evans for the title. He should have already had a shot.

P4P
1. GSP
2. Fedor/Silva
3. Evans

Clay Guida is awesome lol... clearly my favourite fighter

Cant wait for UFC 98 in May, Lesnar v Mir... Mirs takedown on Lesnar was brilliant and he will beat him again, Lesnars last opponent wore himself out trying to out muscle him which was never going to happen...

GSP is in trouble because he had vaseline on his back. Penn wants a rematch.

Yeh I noticed that. Apparently the last few fighters have been saying he's been 'greasy'. Even if he didn't have the vaseline on his back he'd still have beaten BJ, he was all over him, completely dominated the fight and abit of vaseline wouldn't have made much difference. BJ's a much better fighter in the weight class below anyway, I'm sure GSP will be willing to give him a rematch, but I'd avoid it if I was BJ Penn, he'll just get beaten again.

good win for Rampage last night. Wasn't really impressive but he did the job. He will have to up his game to beat Evans when they fight.

Disappointing for Machida who is still undefeated but he should be next in line to fight the winner of Evans and Rampage.

bad link. Is it about him drinking his own urine?

I think that he will win against Evans. He is well rounded in all the aspects of the game.

Looking forward to UFC 97 on Saturday night. 2 really big fights. We've got Thales Leites vs Anderson Silva and Chuck Liddell vs Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua. Really looking forward to both fights, can see Silva and Shogun coming out on top, but I'll be cheering on Thales and Liddell. Silva's clearly going to beat Thalis though, wants to make it up to Dana and the fans after his last fight where he didn't perform as well as he wanted to, and for the fight not going to a completion. Shogun's looking pumped for this fight against Liddell as well. He's taken his training camp away from his home, and he's training harder than ever. If the real Shogun Rua turns up then he'll win.

Going to be a good event!

UFC 97 last night, was an OK event. Not the best I've seen. Silva disappointed once more. Was expecting him to be really up for putting on a good show for the fans after his last fight, didn't happen, was another borefest. Liddell vs Shogun was good though. Liddell has done the same thing 2 fights in a row though, looked on top and looked comfortable and then just been undone by 1 good punch. Could be age, or it could just be a matter of bad luck. Can't see him retiring though, especially with the sort of money he's pulling in per fight!

The rest of the card was good, the first fight was really good, Cane looked really vicious. His head kicks to Cantwell were vicious. Kongo vs Hardonk was a decent fight as well, I expected Cheik to come out on top, and he did. Fairly convincing TKO victory.

Can't say I was particularly impressed with Matt Wiman either. He looked incredibly tired and lazy after the first round, and never looked remotely like forming any sort of worthwhile offence against Stout. Stout deserved his win.

The next event will be a good'un as well. Machida vs Evans with the winner taking on Rampage. Was disappointed to hear that Rampage had to have surgery and couldn't make 98, but I'm sure we'll see him back and firing for either Evans or Machida. Also got Matt Serra vs Matt Hughes as well, should be a good fight that one. Hughes has beaten BJ Penn in his career, also beaten Royce Gracie as well, so he's got some talent. Serra's clearly got some skills as well, beating GSP for the Welterweight title so Serra vs Hughes is gonna be a good'un.

The one I'm really looking forward to is UFC 100. So many good fights on the cards. Lesnar vs Mir, GSP vs Thiago Alves, Henderson vs Bisping and also Belcher vs Akiyama. Gonna be one hell of an event that one. Bruce Buffer's going to bring out the double spin as well apparently :hpraise

Edit: Just saw on MMANews.com that Dana White has said that the Shogun fight is Chuck Liddells last :( I hope Chuck denies the claims and proves Dana wrong and proves he's not passed it. He didn't look over the hill in that last fight, he was looking good until the Knockdown punch. He's been a fantastic servant of the UFC if he has retired, one of mine and alot of others favourite fighters, legend of UFC!

Lol all the Chuck fans want to see him fight again. I'm not too fussed but my mates is a massive fan, like has his shorts signed and framed and just bums him kind of fan. Where you walk in his room and it's a little unnerving to see so much Chuck stuff about :p

98 was good. Machida was class and won, he is the real deal. If he beats Jackson there could be an undisputed champion in pretty much every weight category. Thought the Hughes-Serra fight was dull but it was going to go one way or the other after all the talk. Serra was unlucky not to get the decision, at least a SD would have better reflected the close nature of the fight.

Me and some mates are going down to the gym where some of the guys from TUF train and will give this stuff a go. Got to be honest, the wrestling side of things scares the pants off me. I'll keep it standing and box everyones ears off though. :D

Affliction 3, Fedor-Barnett. Tough fight for Fedor, but it is Fedor.

So can't wait to get down to the gym and give it a go. We have all set 2 months to get in shape before we start, which is fine for me anyway, I'll just work on some cardio and I already do a lot of muscle bulding stuff, basically all the stuff that lets you look good, get down the boxing gym and give those skills some work and then watch some MMA in the hope of learning something before I get my arse handed to me. Well I'm hoping that if I can keep it standing I'll be alright as I have done a little bit of kickboxing as well so that will obviously be my strength. Course I'll get a bit excited when I go in there and start talking ████ and get beat up so they can put me in my place. :D Will be packed though, now everyone realises there's somewhere that is producing quality fighters in Leicester.

Kimbo Slice on TUF hahahaha. Obviously just done for ratings because you get goons like my mate who has no idea about MMA but just likes Kimbo because they're both black :D

Looks like he's on Rampage's team from his twittering. Looks like Machida-Shogun too. Hopefully Shogun will be back to his form from Pride.

Hopefully Rampage'll pound Kimbo's face in. =]

Yeh, Shogun's not gonna stand a chance against Machida unless he gets his PRIDE form back. I'm hoping that Cro Cop has managed to rediscover his PRIDE form as well. He's fighting Al-Turk at UFC 99, hopefully we'll see a Head Kick knockout like the one against Wandy. I'd love to see an on form Cro Cop in the Heavyweight division. Could see some serious competition in the HW division soon. Affliction's going down the pan and Fedor could finally be signed by the UFC, Cro Cop's back, Overeem's apparently on his way to the UFC as well + the TUF HW series coming soon. Could finally be some real competition in the HW division.
