i love hindi....though mine is more of bumbaiyya hindi ! :D

bengalis and south indians can get pretty funny when it comes to speaking hindi...

e.g
Hindi - Gadbad
Bengali - GODBOD !
southies - Gaadbaad !

hindi - ye nahi chalega
bengali - ee noi cholegha......ee nahi cholbe
southies - yeha naghi chalegha !

seriously, i think we should scrap hindi as our national language when 60% of the people cant even speak it properly....
especially the south indians and North East fellows....well, the north east dont think they are a part of india....but thats another league altogether !

Seriously, who made Hindi the national language? Why should we (South Indians) speak Hindi when we have no need for it (I can speak Hindi because I have lived in Bombay, Bhuvaneshwar (Orissa) for 3-4 years together)? We dont need a National language of any sort. We just need a common language for places like the Parliament, etc where a single language is needed to converse in a group. Apart from that, there is no need for a National language.

Who says you need to enroll to Hindi in south india.

No you dont (in the south, you have the option of learning Tamil or Hindi as your 'second language' subject).. I was replying to jk's comment where he said Hindi should be scrapped as national language because 60% of the people in the country dont speak it properly. i guess people are happy with their own languages. they manage when go to other places by a little of english and a little of hindi or whatsoever. the only places where a common language is needed is places like the parliament, and let hindi be the common one there (because people there could be egoistic and not let a non-indian language like english be the common one).

Deary me, education is wildly overdone and overvalued in India. You have no time to enjoy life, it isn't all about studying. Life experience is infinitely more important than intelligence and it is about time your government realised that.

Well, we, who study in schools under the West Bengal board do enjoy life. As I've stated earlier, the syllabus here is a piece of cake. But those under the ICSE and CBSE boards, God save them! Pressure there is tremendous! But hopefully, leaders have realized their mistake, and talks are on regarding scrapping Class X CBSE board exams. Which will hugely diminish this hellish burden od pressure.

Oh mate!!!Come out of Kolkata.....I have'nt experienced much of Kolkata life....But with what I've experienced the lifestyle here and the lifestyle in Kolkata are totally different.....I know children studying in CBSE or ICSE boards in Kolkata are pressurised but the case here in Pune what I've experienced is different....We don't have those exams anymore....We'll just have Prelims in November and Jan and after that we've got boards.....

And yeah I agree with your view of scrapping boards.....

I have a Marathi mixed Hindi :p

You are over exaggerating.I have the 10th textbook and the last time I counted it was some where around 14-15 chapters. And are you in 10th?
I am about to start the 10th syllabus in 2 months and know what we have already started 10th syllabus of Chemistry and Computer.

Yeah,I agree with you ICSE=Hell of Homework.Don't understand why the media always bothers with CBSE boards.Their syllabus is not even 50% of our syllabus.

The main thing about Hindi's that if Southies and Bengalis live outside their native palces for some years they learn it.....Look at me after living in Maharashtra for 10 years I even speak fluent Marathi....

Take a look at our syallabus (Eighth grade) (Not of the WB board, of our school. Our school, as it's a private school, doesn't follow the board syllabus till Class IX)

1. English I (8 Stories, 6 Poems)
2. English II (Clauses, Narration, Phrasal Verbs, Idioms, Appropiate Preopositions, Simple/Complex/Compound sentences...etc + Writing Skills)
3. Bengali I (8 Stories, 6 Poems)
4. Bengali II (6 Grammar Items + Writing Skills)
5. Life Science (4 Chapters, 40/45 pgs) (Cells, Tissues, Organs and Systems, Identifying Characteristics of diffrent plants, and Experiments on Plant Physiology)
6. Physical Science (8 Chapters) (In an avg all have 6/7 pages)
7. Maths
a) Arithmetic (4 items)
b) Algebra (4 items)
c) Geometry (3 items)
8. Geography
a) Physical Geography (3 items)
b) Regional Geography:
i) Europe
ii) North America
iii) Antarctica
iv) Oceania
(Location, Relief, Climate, Rivers, Natural Vegetation, Type Regions etc + Map pointing) (All 10/12 pages in an avg)
9. Computer (GW Basic (!), C, HTML etc)
10. History (8 Chapters, in an avg all 5/6 pages long)
11. Environmental Science (4 Chapters, 30 pgs)

This is what an ideal syllabus should be. Only that the Geography syallabus is a bit long and tiresome, and the Life Science syllabus is way too easy.
