Top Pak players face fines, bans | Cricket News | Global | Cricinfo.com

The recommendations have still to be approved by the board chairman - and they could yet be turned down - but Cricinfo has learnt that the committee has called for the Akmal brothers and Shahid Afridi to be fined for various misdemeanours and for Shoaib Malik and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan to be banned for up to a year from international cricket.

Man isn't Pakistan cricket in deep ████ or what. These players are more or less the core of their one day team and they are facing big fines and even bans if the PCB chairman does what the inquiry committee told him he should do.

Such a shame. I remember so many good matches with great Pakistani players. So sad to see Pakistani cricket in the mud like this.....

They won't ban them though, PCB will give in and let them play at the detriment to the country's cricketing progress. Nothing ever gets followed through in Pakistan cricket, they ban/fine people then they simply appeal and it all goes away, its just a big circus.

I know this post will cost me, everytime I even remotely criticize the PCB I get neg reps (and I know from who) saying things like " your a racist" " you insult a whole country" :facepalm

The boards are know for that. Whenever you talk bad about someones board or players you get neg rep.
Whats there not to criticize about the PCB they do exactly what you said, Akhtar, Asif and a few others got of easy a good number of times.

Akmal brothers? I can understand Kamran for his fail-ness behind the wickets recently but Umar is a diamond in the rough. You simply can't do this to a player, unless he succumbed to Match Fixing or something.

Afridi deserves it, he's a tool. Especially to do something so stupid (ball biting), and lie about it when about a 100 cameras caught him in the act, all while he was captain and had to lead by example.

Malik is a good player, i'm a fan. Not sure what he did but IMO he will be the biggest loss to Pakistan cricket if this goes through. He's one of the few who can build an innings, can switch gears quickly and efficiently. Can go from a S/R in the 60s to 80s and 90s in no time. Very Mahela-like.

Well since we don't know the details Rohit we can't really comment on Umar Akmel. I heard he was threatening to not play if Kamran was dropped at one time, and if that is the case then that deserves a ban.

The bigger issue is playing at home, Pakistan will not be playing at home for at least another 5-10 years, this is turning them into a roving gang of vagabonds and in my books leading to the other issues.

Well he did fake a injury because his brother was getting dropped from the last test and didnt want to play unless Kamran played. That deserves some sort of fine. He is the 2nd most junior member of the team and just starting playing cricket for Pakistan, needs to be put in place early.

wow this is weird
no Hmarka, There is nothing wrong with your post.

Pakistan sure do take failure quite seriously. Just imagine if New Zealand Cricket took the same stance with the Black Caps. We would be fielding a different team every single game.

But IMO, it's quite ridiculous. The PCB is having enough troubles as it is and fining and banning players isn't going to help the situation one bit. They should really focus on playing good cricket and not worry too much about what happened in the past. Yes Australia beat them senseless. Learn from those mistakes and work towards the future.

this sucks.

The only hope we had of a decent series until the ashes was Pakistan in England and SA in the west indies. Guess we're down to one of those likely to be even remotely competitive (and even that's 50/50 given how the windies are arsing up ODIs against zimbabwe)

Don't get what Rana could have done to deserve a 1 year ban.

Yea it doesn't really say anything about Rana, it only mentions what Malik did/might have done.

Its hard to concentrate on playing better cricket when half of the team is doing their best to disrupt the team. No team can play and perform when they arent playing as one. Not even Australia or the West Indies in their glory years could do it if 3-4 members of the team are disturbing team unity from within. These guys are the problem according to this committee and the problem has to be fixed.

Few things I feel need to be cleared up.

#1, Shoaib Malik's ban is due to his role in disrupting team unity.

#2, Nobody knows why the committee wants a 1 year ban on Rana Naveed. It has yet to be disclosed by any of the morons who run the PCB. Kamran Akmal and Rana were both under the scanner for match-fixing, and it seems as though Rana has been found guilty - just speculating.

#3 & #4, Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal are being fined for their statements to the media following the Melbourne Test Match and also Umar faking an injury / refusing to play if Kamran did not play. Kamran made statements that he would play in the 3rd test match, going against what the PCB and team management said.

#5, Shahid Afridi - more to do with the ball tampering incident than anything else. Ijaz Butt cannot follow through on this recommendation as he has already been punished by the ICC - following through with this is in direct contradiction of ICC rules.
