What is a good pitch for cricket?

Yep they are so good that they are not even being considered for the ashes in 2009, instead they chose Cardiff :p

That's more to do with the facilities than the quality of the pitch unlike the Rose Bowl at Hampshire, where the square is still bedding in.

Anyway, I'll allow Evo one come back then it's back on topic.

They are so good that we've won 3 of our last 4 Tests there, the 4th only being denied due to Glenn Bloody McGrath.

That's my comeback Tom.

For ODI's and Twenty/20's they have to be absolute roads, because the public want to see a lot of quick runs with a lot of boundaries.

For tests a pitch with an average score of 350 would be good. Good to bat on if you apply yourself, but enough in it for the seamers early doors. With it detirorating and spinning on days 4 and 5.

Don't you think having roads in ODIs will be a bit too harsh on bowlers having to bowl 10 overs on a flat paradise, often 5 or more games on the trot.

I'd like to see pitches which give a score of around 240 for ODI's. Anything over 275 can lead to one sided affairs and anything below 200 the same.

It's all about balance. You want to give both batters and bowlers a sniff of a chance and in the process create a close game which keeps the crowd involved.

Yep closer matches are much better viewing and one sided matches are awfully tedious.

One type of pitch I want abolished is dustbowls. It offers too much of an advantage to spinners.

You dont see those too much anymore anyway...

Hhhmmm, the sub continent isnt the whole of the world is it>

I never said it was. I just said I want dustbowls abolished. I don't remember being area specific.

Lets keep it to what a makes a good pitch. I don't mind it evolving into pitches which ruin the game but there's no need for arguments to develop.
