As an Australian Cricket Fan I'm disgusted...

At these claims we're racially abusive. Bugger off we are. These claims are an absolute joke. If we want to abuse an opposition player we'll pick on his ability, his lack of ability, his hair, his running style or his girlfriend. But one thing we aren't is racist. Murali himself has said that he has never been racially abused in Australia. So why is there suddenly threats from the ICC that if our fans are racially abusive we'll be banned from hosting games? While NOTHING has been done to the BCCI in regards to Andrew Symonds being racially abused? The hypocrisy is disgusting and outrageous.

We heckle opposition players, but it never has anything to do with race.

I agree that sometimes Aussie crowds are unfairly blamed for all the racial abuse, but you must admit that their crowds have a fairly large and a very vocal minority that gives them a bad name.

Well, In case of symonds being racially abused , i think there was misinterpretation of the crowd behaviour. Symonds was refrerred to as a monkey because of he make up and his hair style, where does race come here? Secondly out of a crowd of around 60,000 only 6-7 guys made monkey gestures at him and thirdly these guys were arrested and put up to imprisonment. Does that make it clear?

We don't have the whole stadium bagging these players. Usually the hooligans, and there's usually on 50-100 of those. That doesn't make up all of Australian supporters does it?

Tram Drivers v/s Bus Conductors any of u remember this ..some aussie fans were holding a placard in the crowd..during the 1985 championship finals btw pakistan n india...

regarding symonds racial abuse..he wasnt abused racially..they were making fun of his new look..symonds has toured india many times...y didnt this kind of thing happened b4?

symond use to sport a shaven head look or trimmed hair look.wen he came to india .but this time he has grown long hair ...wen he gets exicted he jump so..people made fun of him using the anticsn chants ...no one actually knows that symonds is from carribean orgion...

Not at the Australian cricket fans but at some of the people, I was amazed at how racist some of the Australian people are when I visited there. Some of the comments I heard concerning Aborigines were disgusting. Of course I expect this to be a minority but it was more than I thought there would be.

Of course the Australian Cricket Fans are perfectly fine I have never met a racist or even unkind Australian at a cricket match.

I do think Aussie crowds get a bit of a beat up over this issue. I remember Graeme Smith spouting off last year before our Ashes tour that Monty would be racially abused by the crowd. They actually seemed to love him though, appreciating the fact he's clearly a whole-hearted cricketer.

That's not to say it doesn't go on; there's morons everywhere, unfortunately. Reading what Highlander said about the attitudes towards the indigenous population made me think of that famous picture of Nicky Winmar (an Aboriginal St Kilda AFL player) responding to the rascist abuse from some Collingwood fans by lifting up his shirt and pointing to his skin as a gesture of pride and defiance.

A different sport & over ten years ago now, but I dare say such overt racism does live on in some dark corners.

I just hate the way the ICC warns Australia yet they are too scared to do the same thing to their precious BCCI.

I went to a game in Sydney back when I used to live there - 1999 or 98.
India vs NSW.
In the Pavillion box, the rich guys, with me, my mom, my sister, and my dad right next to them, yelled down at Srinath or whoever was fielding at third man to "Go back to their mud-huts".

Then Srinath flipped em off, and got 10 wickets in the game :D

That is the most ridiculous excuse I have ever heard - they were being racist, that much is clear, idon't take it personally - I am not saying you or the majority of your fans are racist just a tiny minority.

He was racially abused by one or two people in a practice match. That is not to say all Australian crowds are racist and it is ridiculous to see fans taking the moral high ground over this - every country has its racists and it is important to not just stop racism in the countries shown in the news recently but globally. Obviously you can't stop people having racist viewpoints - it would be wrong to persecute them for believing in their racist ways - but stopping it showing and being carried out is important. Note: this isn't just white people abusing black people but all forms of racism that shouldn't be done.

So indians judge people by their hair? Just because of his new hair style they become racist? If this this their mentality then Australia have a right to racially abuse Dhoni, don't they? I'm not encouraging any racism at all but I'm just saying that if their excuse for racism if hair length then that is aboslutely pathetic! I'm disappointed with Indian fans.

I am not saying I want any Indian cricketer to be racially abused in retaliation. I hate racism.

Not at the Australian cricket fans but at some of the people, I was amazed at how racist some of the Australian people are when I visited there.

In the book "Penguins Stopped Play", Harry Thompson speaks of how this Aussie man he was staying with opened a conversation by saying, "I say, that Nelson Mandela's a black b*stard isn't he!" Some Australians are racist, but then again so are all other nations. Certainly don't pick on one country in particular...

This is pathetic. It really is. Every country has racists, I think we all wish it could be different, but it's not. Every single country in the world has a minority of tossers who feel the need to abuse someone because of their race. Sadly it's a fact of life. Australia isn't a racist country, neither is India, Pakistan, England or most countries. Zimbabwe is a racist country because the government are very openly against the white people in the country. There has been a huge amount of generalisation by both the Australians and the Indians over the issue. Neither country is racist and nobody has any right at all to say that. Some people are yes, but the behaviour by a lot of people on here has been dreadful.

You should be disgusted... that there are Australian fans that are racist. If you are going to claim that in your whole country there is not a single racist cricket fan that goes to the game, or rather, a cricket fan that makes racial comments at a game, then there is no point in taking your words seriously from this point.

Racist abuse happens everywhere in the world. Give people a little bit of alcohol and all the prejudices/thoughts they have inside will come out one by one. As for the direct relation with Indian, crowds, you can look up the thread that was already created for and discussed this topic.
