To much international cricket is ruining the game

I am of the opinion that the fact that there is a huge amount of international cricket at the moment is extremely detrimental to the game. Reasons behind this is that the continued broadcasting of Australia's dominance is turning people away from the game particularly in other countries, and people are getting bored with the game and watching these pointless and meaningless continuous series. Crowds and popularity are dramatically decreasing. The subcontinent may be an exception. However I do believe that the 20-20 format is great because it evens the playing field, is new and exciting and takes in an audience that likes quick action and excitement.

Back in the 1940 and 50's in Australia, it was common to get massive crowds of 40,000-50,000 at state games. During these times Australia played a Test Series every two years! I for one love watching state cricket because the playing field is so even, and you dont know who will win. Its a pity that no one takes notice anymore.

I say dramatically cutdown on international cricket and promote the domestic game. Imagine a champions league for domestic teams with huge crowds....

If Australia 'A' played test cricket Australia could play a test.. 1 day break.. Aus 'A' play a test and us fans get a whole lot of entertainment :D

I think how its done now is good they have a whole season of games a then a whole season to relax. In the end it's what they get paid for ( who would get bored of cricket!)

Errrr, there will still be cricket- the international players will play represent their states more often, and youd be able to see them live more often.

Over the past few months, I've noticed when Australia aren't in action, either their Australia A teams or Australia U-19s head over to Pakistan.

Interesting enough ;) - But its not for the fans as far as I can tell ; the A games and U-19 games in Pakistan aren't televised.

But many of those guys going on those Australia A tours do end up playing for Australia some time during that season (Stuart, etc)

But let me tell you, I remember Javed Miandad asking what are they (they as in the players) complaining about? In my time, we used to yearn for more matches.

And I'll be honest, there doesn't seem to be any more matches played now than there were in say, 1999.

But prehaps there was a big difference around the 1980s ; but nobody complained between 1999 and 2005.

The playing field was more even prior to 2000. Im thinking even go back to the 1950 days and have one Test Series per year. It will be just like watching your national football team - a bigger and more followed spectacle.

You dont see players from your favourite domestic football or rugby teams play only 1 or 2 games per year becuase of having to contunuously represent their countries in meaningless one-sided series. And look whats happens- both the domestic forms and international forms of these codes are followed really well. Apply this to cricket and you might get more than 1000 people for your test matches....

This is Australia Im referring to. As I mentioned before the subcontinent may differ in respect to the popularity and strength of both domestic and international cricket. How well followed is your domestic game in Pakistan? Here we get like 100 people to state 4 day games and maybe 3000 to one day state games.

i think there is a huge gap between countries in terms of cricket played and that is ruining the game in my opinion. India, Pakistan, South Africa and Australia to some extent play waaay to much cricket while countries like New Zealand, West Indies, Bangaldesh dont play as much with Sri Lanka and England sort of in the middle.

What is the point of giving Bangladesh a test spot if they only play 1-2 series a year, for a side like New Zealand who has been a test playing nation for a long time to play such a small amounth of tests is insane, same goes for West Indies. A team with such history and people with such passion for cricket and yet they dont play as many tests. You cant expect teams to be competitive and field good test sides if they dont play tests for a entire year.

I would not mind watching cricket every week. Also the sucess of teams depend on how good its bench strength is. Teams need to play inorder to develop bench strength or else they will become like New Zealand or West Indies which play less and do not perform well when they play also.
Part of England sucess recently is that they are playing more cricket and which means they are finding new talent which never got opportunity in past.

I agree, top nations playing too much cricket. They need to have every nation playing as even amounts of games as possible. It's so hard for those morons at the ICC to work off that basic idea. Though, all they care about is money!

Exactly. All they care about is money. Which is why the World Cup was so poor. Its why they charged the West Indian people an entire monthly wage just to get in the ground. Its ****ing criminal. Its also why there is so much international cricket. And why the minnow teams are getting nowhere because there is no international body providing them infrastructure, exposure and support.

People ask what happened to the famous West Indian culture at the World Cup. The answer is that the competition was brutalised and commercialised so much that they couldnt express their culture even if they could afford to get into the ground. Money hungry, thieving, greedy *******s.

The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.

A teams should get more importance..
