If Malik and Shehzad make the world t20 XI then Pakistan are no hopers.
In real terms, they have an excellent T20 squad and don't need Malik whose best work is 5 or so years gone and Shehzad who has no such thing as "best work".
Riaz is friends with Butt, they are all part of a similar group with ties in the media, so I'm not surprised this happened. The outcry was somehow so large though that they had to backstep which is a good thing regardless.
I'd rather take Gilly any day of the week over MS as keeper/bat but I was just holding off on Tendy lol I thought I'd get the 3 Aussie greats in my side. There are however some very good openers in world cups so I feel like it's not too much of a loss atm...lets see by my next turn haha
Edit...
I gotta defend Benaud here...cricket wasnt all "bantz" and "ladz" in the commentary box. Test cricket in particular used to be prestige. Benaud made you feel like it was a privilege to simply observe.
Pakistan have had a couple of decent outing down under but yeah, this time seems particularly hopeless with Shan Masood taking a spot for at least 3 tests, Babar at an all time low in confidence and form, Shaheen not at 100%, peak corruption among the likes of Riaz and his lackies.
It's maybe...
This is arguably the premier tour of the winter and no thread?
I'll kick off then.
Pakistan test squad:
Schedule:
1st Test – Perth, 14-18 December 2023
2nd Test – Melbourne, 26-30 December 2023
3rd Test – Sydney, 3-7 January 2024

Yep, it was a remarkable season for Waqar and one that solidified as legendary a status for him as Wasim in Lancashire.
It's weird but Waqar was a genius fast bowler himself but is often overshadowed by Wasim to the extent that many forget Waqar is a GOAT type cricketer.
Thats not an unpopular opinion at all.
Id state the following as contenders for best ever fast bowlers across formats: mcgrath, wazza, lillee, marshall, hadlee, holding, khan and waqar would be right up there in the mix
Noway was I going to split up one of the best opening pairs in ODI cricket in the last decade.
Plus the 5 centuries are ab it misleading as only 2 came against the other top 4 teams in that tournament and only one of those even resulted in a win. In the semi-final he then just scored 1
Rahul was not just a very good keeper, he was one of the best in voting for or against reviews which one needs in hot headed situations.

Dunno what you're trying to say here...the middle order is Root, Babar and Stokes. Are you trying to say Babar is just a stat padder? (because he...

@Disharies
My point is that this group will not be able to mount a successful defense. Can they be world beaters in 5 or more years time? Maybe. Are they world beaters now? No.
I don't think any of that is necessarily a bad thing as I'd like to see an England test side as good as the one I grew up with...
