They're playing against England. They'll be effective.
I want to see us go in with:
1. Andrew Strauss *
2. Joe Denly
3. Ravi Bopara
4. Eoin Morgan
5. Paul Collingwood
6. Matt Prior +
7. Luke Wright
8. Stuart Broad
9. Graeme Swann
10. James Anderson
11. Graham Onions
Not a great team by any means, but it's the best we can do I think. Shah has to go. At least Collingwood and Bopara offer something in the field and with the ball. Shah can't bat, run, field or bowl particularly well. I think Prior would be best off down the order as well. Easier to find gaps as the field should be spread when he comes in, which should allow him to score at a decent enough pace. Onions has to play ahead of Sidebottom as well, Sidey looked terrible against the Aussies.
The game will either follow one of 2 patterns:
1) England will bat first. Start nicely with Strauss and Denly. One of them will throw their wickets away, which will bring Bopara in. He'll look pretty, play some glorious shots but then throw his wicket away in the 20's. This will lead to a collapse, with the run rate plummeting with Prior and Shah inevitably following Ravi in the order. They'll then throw their wickets away, and we'll be left slogging at the end in the batting powerplay with Jimmy and Onions. All out for 180 with Sri Lanka chasing the target with ease.
2) Dilshan and Jayasuriya will blast away early, with the opening bowlers going round the park. England will never recover except for a spell of 5 overs where they pick up 2 quick wickets. After that it'll go downhill again, with Sri Lanka eventually making over 300. England will again start nicely with the bat, before the collapse begins and we capitulate to 150 all out.
In other words. We've lost.
