I don't know how long my run up should be. Could anyone give me some help with this. I'm a right hand leg spinner if that helps at all. I made a fool of myself the other game when I was just handed the bowling marker and I just tossed it anywhere haha. So yeah, help would be appreciated :).

The traditional method for fast bowlers, and there is no reason that you cannot do it for a spinner, is to blindfold yourself in a field and do your action about 10 to 15 times, starting at the same spot and having a friend mark where you land. After a while, you should be landing in pretty much the same spot and from that you can measure out the distance in paces and that should be your run up.

Yea, you can do that.

I usually start at the bowling crease, then do an imaginary run-up and bowl the ball, see where I land, start a step after that (to avoid no-balls). Changes from time to time, but usually ends up the same.

Lol, I'm also a Leggie and my run up changes every game, I CBA with all that measuring sheet. Works for me though.

Lol I'm like you mate, I just get on with it. I see some of my team mates spend ageees sorting it out and I'm like "just get on with it lol".

Yup. Legspin is more instinctive that other styles, I've found. You can bowl medium pace and offspin off a steady runup, but my legspin changes ball to ball. It is what feels right at the moment.

I like to have a pretty consistent lineup whenever I bowl leg spin (I've started learning it a bit now). I do, however, tend to do a Johan Botha every now and then and bowl with a 1 step runnup and fire it in sometimes.

Variations even in the run up can really mess with the batsman and get them out.

From someone who has only bowled one ball of spin in a match situation, so take with a pinch of salt, I don't think a spinner of any kind should ever bowl a no ball. It is unacceptable, at very most you are travelling at jogging pace and therefore should never even come close to overstepping the line.

I've never bowled a no ball thankfully :p. I've had 2 wides I think lol, when I was just starting.

bro, practice your fast leg spin ball, keep the run up for the fast ball the same as ur regular line up, so when you do deliver it once in a while, u'll be sure to stumble the batsmen ;)

I bowl loads of no-balls with my offspin :p I also end up following through right in the umpires path...

the best way is to just find what is comfortable for you. When I bowl Left Arm Chinaman(which turns a mile) my run-up is about 6 steps. I tend to bowl pace and have a rather long run-up considering how quick I bowl, but thats just what's comfortable. I don't know why I bowl so slow but atleast I can bowl good lines.

i bowl off spin and i normally have around a 12 step run up. i make sure i start my run up about half a step behind my mark to avoid balling no balls and it works for me. i turn the ball a lot into right handers but i am a really good bowler to left handed batsmen. whenever i bowl to a left handed batsmen i always get them out as i use drift to make the ball move into them then straighten it up a little or not at all

The best way would be to start at the popping crease and to do a run up away from it and do your action without releasing the ball. Usually you will stop and do the action where feels comfortable so mark it down then count the number of steps and use that. This should work as your run-up. If your bowling spin there's no need to worry about bowling a no-ball as spinners very rarely bowl them.
