Air Terror Bid Foiled in England

definetley though it must be very worrying to the authorities to know that these explosive substances can be easily bought from DIY shops.
Not at all. You can make a reasonably effective dynamite subsitute by using chemicals found in the average household, for example.

well this has really opened my eyes to the availability of these chemicals and other substances that are very dangerous and its quite scary

Its nothing new. Before the internet there was an infamous book called the "Terrorist Handbook" that gave recipies for explosives amongst other things. Just because you can make an explosive device from things you'll find under your kitchen sink doesnt mean you have anything to worry about.

11 Suspects in court, 8 charged with conspiracy to murder and a new terrorism charge (Forgotten it's name).

Remember Guy Fawkes was a 'terrorist'.

Using explosives is thousands of years old.

Nope, the Chinese probably used it when they were so far ahead of everyone else 3,000 years ago. As they had invented fireworks around then I assume they could've used the gunpowder for something.

I think gunpowder was invented during the middle ages ...

And Fidayeen/Suicide squads have been used in the past, most notably during the crusades, and by armies of the far east. But such attacks have hitherto been usually carried out against military targets, or to create diversion and confusion in enemy ranks. The use of suicide attacks on civilian populations to terrorise (by making use of the worldwide spread of media and communications) is relatively new.
