:aus: :bwl: Ashley Mallett

Before Nathan Lyon took on the mantle of certified "GOAT", there was only really one contender for the title of greatest ever Australian offie: South Australia's Ashley "Rowdy" Mallett. An international career that started in the 1960s stretched all the way to the early years of ODI cricket, in which time Mallett was able to add 11 ODI wickets @ 31 apiece to his 132 Test wickets at a sub-30 average.

When I started bowling off-breaks (once my knees had told me there would be no more bowling quick) it was grainy footage of Mallett that I studied as much as any other bowler: if only this compilation had existed, that would have been far easier.

:wkb: Matthew Wade didn't quite hit the heights in ODIs. But he was one of Australia's best T20I bats in the 2010s, and in my side, his role as "finisher" really requires the same skillset as then, so I think he can translate.

@Viper. (there's still three international quality keepers left, sorry about this one)

It’s okay because I never truly wanted to pick Wade anyway

So it’s finally time to pick the glovesman that I’ve been postponing for so long, but it has to be done. Not everyone can get Gilly so we have to compromise..

I think I had two options in mind that’s unpicked, three initially. Now I’m going to go for experience and stats over potential and recency.

The controversial Tim Paine will have to be my wicket keeper for the side. An average of 33 in List A with 9 tons and a decent ODI record too with a century to his name. And the XI is finally complete

Brett Lee's brother will cap off my team. He will bat at no. 8 while also being the 4th pacer of the team. Although there was a thought of picking a spin all rounder but I think any true Australian side should have at least 4 pace bowling options. Plus this guy can also bat pretty well giving the right depth to my side.

Only mistake in my side is probably lack of a proper captain. For now, I'm putting David Warner as the skipper but I would appreciate if anyone can suggest the best option available.

@Perfect Square with double picks
