I was just wondering if anybody here plays an instrument and what type, or if you are a singer..

I personally play the keyboard, I actually only started in 2007 so I'm not great. I have a cheapo Casio WK-110, the keys are really clicky but it's a good keyboard for a beginner.

I can play heaps of songs on it now. I hate doing classical stuff, and I'm fully self-taught. I mainly just muck around learning real songs.

Here are all the songs I have learnt:

Super Mario Theme
Super Mario Underground Theme
Super Mario 64 Wing Cap Theme
Linkin Park - What I've Done
The Last Goodnight - Pictures of You
The Killers - When You Were Young
The Killers - Somebody Told Me
Human League - Don't You Want Me
Kevin Rudolf - Let It Rock
Coldplay - Clocks
Coldplay - Viva la Vida
Coldplay - Violet Hill
Visage - Fade To Grey
Soft Cell - Tainted Love
Depeche Mode - A Pain That I'm Used To
Depeche Mode - Just Can't Get Enough
Goldeneye 007 - Main Theme
Goldeneye 007 - Runway
Goldeneye 007 - Converted Missile Train
Goldeneye 007 - Archives
Franz Ferdinand - Do You Want To
Linkin Park - Numb
Linkin Park - New Divide
Queens of the Stone Age - Go With The Flow
The Offspring - Gone Away

And I play some songs by ear, but I don't know the whole song, just the intro or various parts of it. These are pretty much the songs I only know fully. :\

So, PC, what instrument do you play?

I've been playing guitar for almost 5 years now (it will be 5 in November). I'm mainly a rhythm player (was in a band for a while but that broke down, long story) and I haven't got a lot of speed in my playing, mainly because I get frustrated playing slowly and then try to go really fast and fail. Favourite guitar players are John Frusicante, Matt Bellamy and Jimi Hendrix. But to be fair that's mainly a list of my favourite bands with the guitar players from them.

played guitar since I was 14, (am in late 20's) harmonica and a little piano.
Wish I would have played the violin or sax as a child.

Id love to hear some recording of your keyboard playing if you ever get around to it.

That sounds cool Left Hander. I've never actually been in a band which is kinda disapponting, it's normally a phase where every teenager makes a band at least once. :D

I would love to be in a band, but the problem is nobody I know really plays many instruments, with the exception of one who plays acoustic and sings.

Hmarkas, I did saxophone when I was in fifth grade (9-10 years old) and never really got into it then, I only did it for a year or so, but the only reason I quit was because I didn't like having to get mum to sign the sheets saying I had practised every day. It is a fun instrument if you are good at it though.

I don't really have anything to record my playing, I don't have a personal camcorder that I own myself, and I'm a little bit embarrassed about recording myself actually playing. I might get around to it sometime though, perhaps save up for a camcorder. Who knows? I'm young, I have plenty of time to decide. ;)

Thanks for responding anyway. If you have been playing guitar for that long Hmarkas you should be very good by now, or at least good if you have long breaks (which I often have playing keyboard, often won't touch it for a month and then I will come back and play three times a day). Have you got any videos or any recorded footage of you playing?

no mate no recording, I started out on electric (like every teenager) but moved away to acoustic while at college. I play mostly folk songs and classic rock. Have not touched it in a long time, would be nice to get back into it. I mostly play harmonica now as its much more portable and practical. If you are interested in learning its a fun instrument, very easy to pick up and a great compliment to guitar or piano playing.
I know of many good websites and can give you some tips if your interested. Just PM me :)
:cheers

I have sent you a PM. :)

I like to learn old game music, from the N64 and SNES in particular. I recall now two other songs I learnt - Snowman's Land from Super Mario 64, which is a fun song to play in the bagpipes tone or the accordion, and Bob-Omb Battlefield from SM64 as well. Two fun songs to play.

I play the tambourine

Mine is almost double the size of the one shown above. I play it in a very Indian style, pretty much imitating the way they play the tabla or the dholak (I mean the sound coming out of it, not the posture). I am part of an Indian devotional group here in my place, and there they sing Bhajans (songs in praise of the Lord) and I play this instrument during that time. Have been interested in learning to play the tabla pretty soon (got a set from India in November but yet to get a teacher)

i used to play the violin since the 8th grade....hindustani style...
now, just dont have the time and discipline to continue ! :(

I play guitar, piano, trumpet and saxophone and have taught music as a classroom specialist for the past year. ;)

Blake, thats not a bad list of songs that you know how to play, pretty good for a beginner :clap (Love Linkin Park :p)

Back to the Point, I`ve played the Guitar for about 6 years now, pretty fun, enjoy it alot. I`m actually not bad at it :p Who would`ve thought? :D

I play piano - a bit, got to Grade 2 and a half. I can improvise a bit as well, with chords and such like. It was dumb to stop taking lessons, I'd probably be around Grade 5 or 6 by now and be able to actually make money from it - might take it up again, it's never too late. I also sing (tenor), range around B - G#. It varies, sometimes I can go higher or lower, but that's the 'safe' zone. :)

I'm a massive muso. Play the piano and French horn to Grade 8 standard, and am nearing that on the Pipe Organ (hoping to do Grade 8 at the end of the year). I also sing in a few choirs (although I cannot sing on my own at all!), and conduct/compose music sometimes too.
