Derby vs Arsenal

Match one for the new season kicked off in style for Arsenal with a 1-0 win over Derby County. Arsenal dominated possession in the match but struggled to find the back of the net. A blinder of a free kick from Robin Van Persie in the 16th minute nearly put the gunners ahead but he was denied by the woodwork. The first half had come to an end with new signings Scott McDonald and Celsinho having lots of possession with no success. The second half kicked with once again the gunners dominating but Derby looked dangerous on the counter attack. Van Persie came close in the 51st minute with a powerful shot at the keepers right but it was tipped around for a corner. But in the 57th minute Kolo Toure came as close as you can get from a contested header. Fabregas wipped in the free kick and Toure hit the header straight into the left goal post. The gunners were becoming frustrated and this become no better when Fabregas was denied by Stephen Bywater straight in front. But this all changed in the 61st minute when Fabregas picked up on some woeful defending and dribbled the ball home.

The gunners were up 1-0. In the 69th minute a 3 way changed happened as Rosicky came off for Walcott, Denilson came on for Gilberto and Adebayor came on for Van Persie. The gunners had complete control of possession and Adebayor smashed a shot from close range to no result in the dieing minutes.

The gunners were disapointed with only a 1-0 win but a wins a win and this is what some of the boys had to say after the match.

Captain William Gallas
It was not the best game we have played but this team has gone under many changed in the offseason and we played with style and tempermante today and thats what this Arsenal side is known best for. It's hard for a team to dwell when you have 3 blokes you have never played a senior game. But full credit to the lads and we can only get better by the week.

Fabregas- Goal scorer
It was important for the team to win today as we have been under pressure by the media, the public and our own fans but credit to the lads we stuck it out and managed to pull a result through. It wasn't the most attractive goal ever but all i can say it went into the back of the net and secured 3 points for my team. I look forward to this season as we have new blokes with lots of skill that can make us a dangerous side on any day.

Scott McDonald- On his first game for Arsenal
It was an amazing experience today to play with some guys like robin, cesc and tomas and i learnt alot. I found out how much of a difference it is from the Scottish League and how much harder you have to work. You just can't expect them to give you the ball just because there world class you have to work for them and thats what i will be improving on in the next coming weeks. I was surprised to get given a starting spot in front of guys like Manu and Eduardo but i tried my hardest today even though it didn't show. I need to prove the Arsenal football club i am the real deal and that i'm here to score goals.

Here are some of the match highlights. Hope you enjoy.

Arsenal will host Liverpool next week at the Emirates which looks to be a thrulling encounter. Arsenal came away with no injurues but it looks like Scott McDonald may be limited to the bench after family matters back home in Australia. More news to be posted at a later date.

Liked the way the defender tackled the keeper to set up the goal. Nice work but will need to play better to beat Liverpool

Nice highlights, just remember who taught you :p

Comfortable win against Derby, nice easy opener, lets see how you go against the tougher opponents. Nice pres.

Scott McDonald has arrived back in Londoin after travelling back home to Australia during the week. McDonald or Arsenal would not say why he rushed back there for 2 days but he is confident of playing on saturdays game against Liverpool.

Alexander Hleb looks all most certain to leave the Emirates after flying to Germany to meet Bayern Munich mid week. Arsene Wenger told Sky News that it is basically a lost cause of him staying and a deal should be struck either in the coming days or early next week.

Arsenal vs Liverpool will be played this weekend. I should have all the results up by sunday. I am going to do something different this week by hosting a preview show. I hope use look forward to seeing this.

Manager Arsene Wenger put a young team on show against Liverpool and he ended up feeling the pain of the decision. Wenger used a 4-4-2 formation which included new players to the first team such as Theo Walcott and Bacary Sagna.

Theo Walcott was handed his first start for the season by manager Arsene Wenger and he looked lively early running down the right flank and creating many chances but it was the instinct of Scott McDonald that put the Gunners in front in the 11th minute. A pass from Walcott that set McDonald up for his first goal with Arsenal. Both teams worked the ball well in midfield during the first half but neither team could put the final death tough on the ball. But in the dieing minutes of the first half a loss of concentration by the gunners cost them dearly when Dirk Kuyt slotted home a header with some poor keeping from Fabianski.

The second half was much the same with Arsenal having many chances to take the lead but some outstading goal keeping from Pepe Reina kept the reds in the hunt. Arsenal introduced Emmanuel Adebayor for Scott McDonald and also Gilberto for Celsinho. The game was headed for a 1-1 draw until some slack defending from Emmanuel Eboue gave away a free kick to Liverpool just outside the box. With seconds remaining Steven Gerrard stepped up and slotted a blinder of a free kick past the Arsenal wall to give Liverpool 3 points on the road.

Manager Arsene Wenger walked off in disgust and told Sky Sports that he is terribly dissapointed with how his team played and also their discipline.
