Dissapointed in it to say the least. They just use the same phrases used in blc 99.
"Smashing shot, really really smashing,i would pay money just to watch that",Just doesn't sound the same from a west indian commentator somehow.
I don't think the graphics and gameplay have improved that much since blc 99 either.

Funny thing about BLC99

One thing i can remember from that game is the absolutely brilliant (and stylish) leg side flick....replete with lazy elegance..

how I miss that...

Now try it again with the beta, if you can (it's only out on PC as yet.) You will be pleasantly surprised. ;)

If you play a leg glance off the back foot, the animation in AC09 is very similar. :)

They needed to put someone entertaining in the commentary box like Geoffery Boycott or David Lloyd.

They also need them to use their own lines and not ten year old recycled ones. Imagine the game if 'Bumble' was given free reign to spout as much amusing and insightful stuff as he is in the real box, and then all that recorded into the game! I know it would make the game a lot bigger; of course, they'd have to draw the line somewhere, but as it is, the commentary is just too workmanlike: it gets the job done, but there's no flair to it.

For the moment, I just turn the commentary off. It's seems too difficult at present to include consistent, relevant, within-context commentary in a cricket game. The game has such variety that in-game commentary is a challenge.

I have found that games like FIFA09 have done a great job with their commentary, but this type of thing has not reached fruition in cricket gaming.

I think it would be best, for the time being, to keep the commentary minimalistic, rather than have the commentators keep saying the wrong thing at the wrong time...

This is a quote from the developers of Cricket Revolution regarding commentary:

"The initial version of CR will not feature standard commentary like there is in other games. Reason being, that no matter how many dialogues you have, it ends up getting repetitive and takes away from the core gameplay and multi-player experience.

We are working on new ways to make it more interesting.
" - Moods, from the Cricket Revolution website.

Sometimes you just need to stop and take a step back from something that needs work. Looks like that was the decision they made here. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

Whoever produces the next cricket game should forget about the commentators having conversations because it always becomes so repetitive " So Shane what do you think about the hook shot?" " well Tony I love it, but not as much as doing two nurses" etc.
If they just stuck with comments and phrases and kept it minimal it would be far better.
Several hours spent watching different live broadcasts taking notes would result in hundreds of different versions for "good ball" " Sublime stroke" etc

The worst thing about the commentary is you can tell they are just reading it as opposed to it sounding natural and they all read the same script lol Agnew asks Shane Warne if Michael Holding was the fastest bowler he ever faced, when would Shane Warne have ever faced Michael Holding?

If the commentators atleast sounded like they weren't reading a script I wouldn't care it was the same recycled script it always has been but they should also asign commentators to specific regions - Tony Greig and Shane Warne should commentate games played in Australia. It is silly to have Agnew and Bishop commentate Australia v NZ in Sydney ditto Agnew and Warne during India v Pakistan in Kolkata.

For me apart from repetation the main issue is lack of excitment from commentators as well as feilders and ballers.

They should get Mark Nicholas in. His delivery in the EA games is really good and he doesn't sound like he's reading it off a sheet. Perhaps lots of his TV stuff is scripted so he's learned to deliver it well.

Like most Indians I'd love to have Geoffrey Boycott in the next iteration of theis lovely game. Heck maybe they could add in some commentators from all major nations who get rotated like a real cricket match, you know maybe we could have the likes of Ravi Shastri, Michael Holding, Wasim Akram, Arjuna Ranatunga etc.

They better not have Ranatunga.
