Ashes 2009 commentary.

LOl , what about Ranjith Fernando ?

The commentator I cannot stand is Mark Taylor. He's the king of stating the bloody obvious all the time.

I find Michael Holding guilty of that too, and always using the same old cliches.

I have been surprised just how good Shane Warne is - I don't mind his banter! There's no doubt the guy knows his stuff when it comes to cricket (and text messaging British nurses).

Greg Chappell was a terrible commentator.

How about the incredibly smug Stuart MacGill?? My television screen doesnt know how lucky it is sometimes!!:D

Oh yeah of course - the SBS coverage of the Ashes in Australia had the trio of Stuart McGill, Damien Martyn and Greg Matthews. Wow, what a pack of tools :facepalm

What ever happened to Richie Benaud being the ultimate commentator?

And yes the commentary is a bit repetitive, I don't know how many times Ive heard Tony Greig talking about the hook shot or how important the number 3 batsmen is.

I reckon I can recall the Shane Warne hook shot quote off the top of my head. Something along the lines of:

"Hook shot - love playing the hook shot. I've got into trouble a few times - got out in the 80s playing the hook, and got out on 90 at Old Trafford. So yeah, can get you a lot of runs but you can get in trouble as well."

Or similar.

Also:

Aggers: "Shane, how did you feel when a batsman hooked you for four?"
Warne: "What are you talking about? I bowl leg spin you clown."

Damien Martyn

Ain't he the self proclaimed Ayatollah Of RockN'Rolla ? I sorta find him funny , because he does manage to make an ass of himself.

LOL

Im glad i play with the volume turned down to Zero

That's not a genuine quote the last one. But Agnew does ask Warne about getting hooked for four, which obviously never happens!

Richie Benaud in previous games had become quite annoying with the phrase:

"Hit straight to a fielder"

Enough with that already, Rich!

At least they've dropped player's names, so we don't get :

That's four runs to...Flintoff. :D

I thought that was Chris Jericho of the WWE, before he became such a twit.

The most irritating thing for me is how each commentator takes the game as a stage to project to the gaming world they're "different" as far as popular cricketing culture goes

Everyone, from Ian Bishop to Tony Greig has their own views on every bloody thing and disagrees with the whatever's in practice today..

Highly irritating..

Ian Bishop's a pleasant enough commentator in real life...

but as it is, the commentary is just too workmanlike: it gets the job done, but there's no flair to it.

You can say that of the game too

The shots, they're very efficient and economical...not much flair in them..

They're more Paul Collingwood than Yuvraj Singh

If that made any sense
