We've reached the next round of Intercontinental Cup fixtures, which could be very important if the two-tier Tests come in soon. Afghanistan beat the Netherlands by an innings to put them top of the table (although Ireland are yet to play their fourth game) which Scotland have yet another game affected by rain and end up drawing with the UAE - only 66 overs were possible so both team get 7 points (the number of points you get for a draw varies in the ICup; you get basically none if its a genuine draw, the same number as a tie if more than ten hours are lost plus first innings points if those could be awarded, and slightly more if the game is abandoned without a ball being bowled). Of the four games that Scotland have played, three have been affected by rain: they got a decent points haul from the Afghanistan game because they managed to bowl them out to get the first innings lead points, the away game against Hong Kong was abandoned without a ball being bowled and they only managed half an innings in Ayr this week. Annoying that since I think we'd have taken max points from the UAE and Hong Kong if rain didn't happen, and based on the way we played in the Afghanistan game we'd have won that one as well.
One more game of this round: Ireland play Hong Kong at the end of August. I think that the PNG/Namibia game was also meant to be part of this round but they kicked it back to October, I imagine because that worked better for them.
