Am I right in thinking that one or more of the Australian test venues is used for Aussie Rules football as well?

If so, how do they ensure that the circket square isn't destroyed during the Aussie Rules season?

It's not rocket science growing grass

MCG, Telstra Dome, SCG and Gabba are all used for Aussie Rules

They take the pitch out.......

The pitch they're using at the Telstra Dome is portable and actually in 2 parts.
When it's not in use, it's home is somewhere in Golbourn and the pitch is 5 years old.

yeah and here's another fact. Those pitches are Baked and usually one replacement is always kept ready. Not like in India where some idiots dug up the pitch during night in New Delhi and the ground staff had to work overtime to resurrect the same one.

lol:D
We are very proffessional in Aus.We always produce quality pitches ;)

it's not like a groundsman spends an entire football season preparing his pitch. the pitch that is used on game day will most probably have only been in real preparation for a week or 2 anyway. it is my understanding that at some of the eastern states pitches they prepare them elsewhere and drop them in, much like the ones at testra dome. the waca and adeliade are the only places i think that aren't used for footy.

the best thing about aussie cricket grounds as opposed to english venues...is that they're a lot bigger - and thrashing sixes is not merely a case of swinging the bat and hoping as Peiterson and Flintoff did so successfully at home - there has to be great placement and timing as well, or your simply going to fall short and be caught.

i think most of the drop in pitches were grown and prepared up townville way due to the difference in temperature

Adelaide Oval is also used extensively for SANFL, i wouldn't be suprised if the WACA was used as well.

Every ground that a International Cricket match is held on is used for Football during the winter, and I mean all of them. Some are also used for soccer, rugby, shows/carnivals and what not.

they have to. otherwise the venue isnt financially viable if your only going to use it for half of the year

The SCG was being prepared as soon as the last footy match was played. So it's well past 2 weeks.

The WACA isn't- used to host West Coast AFL games but Subi has them all now, WAFL games not at local grounds are only played at Subi.

Thanks guys.

Hah! You clearly haven't seen St James Park, Newcastle-upon-Tyne after about 15th September each season :D
