Australian Domestic Cricket

Umm...

Just looked at the stats and wow. IS this the supposed new pitches where ball and bat are more balanced?

There was a time where hardly anybody averaged over 50 and we got insane amounts of people now. Disappointing to see the up coming supposed replacement batsmen are not scoring the runs. Maddinson, Silk, Doolan, Khawaja.

So many spin bowlers dominating.

Tom Cooper putting up some big 4-day scores this season..

I went to Day 1 and 3 of that match. It was good fun. Maxwell played really well and for the most part, played sensible cricket shots. Copeland was also someone who impressed me, got good movement off the pitch and was hard to play in both innings. NSW were dominant the whole way through and it was good to see.

Young batsmen in AUS having a good week making big scores. Big innings from Khawaja here:

Queensland v South Australia at Brisbane, Feb 12-15, 2014 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo

I wonder what his eligibility for Australia is like?

I think he can play for AUS right now if the selectors wanted. When Nannes played for Holland, it didn't take too for him to be available for AUS.

Cricket unlike football, doesn't have very clear eligibility rules for changing nations though.

Next round of matches started this afternoon.

All three are day/night games. Trialing the pink ball.
Victoria vs Tasmania at MCG
South Australia vs NSW at Adelaide Oval
Queensland vs WA at Gabba

Interesting that it's been about 15 years since they last tried day/night shield games. Back then they tried with yellow and orange balls

Final will be between New South Wales and Western Australia at Manuka Oval in Canberra. You could say it's on neutral territory but New South Wales are the home team. The SCG is booked out for a couple of Major League Baseball games funnily enough.

Disappointing that Tasmania went to Sheffield Shield winners last season to finishing 2nd last this season.

We did go out with a bang though. Evan Gulbis scoring 229 is an amazing personal achievement for the 27 year old. Considering he was out for 4 ducks in a row in in his first 4 Sheffield Shield innings, the improvement in his batting is remarkable. His bowling was pretty handy as well with him taking 4-7 with 5 maidens in the second innings. Fair to say he deserved the Man of the Match award for his effort in helping Tasmania beat South Australia. Evan Gulbis will be a player to watch next season for Tasmania.

Gibbs has slowly shown what he can do this past season. Nice breakthrough knock for him, look forward to seeing how he backs up. The selectors are still looking for all rounders so if he can keep making runs he'll put his name in the spotlight.

Interesting seeing some batsmen starting to roll their arm, Ferguson started doing it and Dunk has been rolling his arm a bit.
