BCCI has done it - ICC drops whereabout clause

You cant compromise with the security of people which will be at stake. Cricketers (especially Indian and subcontinental cricketers) are high profile people and hitting them will create a scene in the entire world. If information about their whereabouts are known well in advance to the WADA and it somehow leaks out (whats the guarantee it wont?), then these guys could be in danger. Its just too much of a risk to take. Fair and honest competition is all good, but WADA could do something without this clause, but they are hell bent on not doing it.

I agree, safety is the primary concern for cricketers now after Lahore. However there is always room for compromise. Just depends how much the BCCI/ICC and WADA are willing to compromise. There are many high profile atheltes in many troubled countries, think of all the soccer stars in South America.

No one is against drug tests, no one is against safety. We are all on the same side in this argument, now just need to find a way to make it work.

ICC already has anti doping policy in place.

Yes but we all know how effective that is, people get caught and get suspended sentences. Aruging for the ICC's competence will be really tough sid, but im willing to have a listen.

If you could be just as balanced as you are in this thread with most answers that you give, we could be mates someday :)

As BCCI has said. Cricket should have its own WADA. Since it would be drafted by all cricket playing countries I dont see anyone disagreeing to it.

Lets face it, even other countries players had issue with whereabout clause but they signed the papers anyhow. Now there concern can also be addressed.

The problem will lie with how powerful or rather the lack of power the "self regulated cricket WADA" will have. Odds are that if the players Board back him then they will protest the sentence given and appeal and start a whole mess. But if we are WADA compliant then the decision made by WADA will be final and nothing the boards can do about it .

This will prevent where a player is found guilty but the home board cuts the sentence down by half with no consequence.

Cricket takes another loss to the Indians. Won't be long until the BCCI control everything.

RIP International Cricket.

I really really don't know why people are throwing the mud at BCCI and the "Indians" only, when the BCCI got support of almost all the other boards.

The school yard bully usually does have a few reluctant followers.

I wonder why :sarcasm

New Zealand backed them right, it's not like our player's really care too much about the whereabout's clause. Getting behind the BCCI in this matter would be all about brownie points for New Zealand.

Well, thats their problem. They need to have their balls in place.

On this issue, the BCCI is right with their argument. The ICC agree with it. Its just that you guys are so hell bent on cricket getting into the Olympics and all that, that you are willing to risk a possible mistake that could put the lives of Indian players (and dont know who else) in danger. As Hmarka said, compromise could be possible but we are discussing about whether the BCCI are right or not, and they are right.

tbh I thought the whereabout clause was intrusive, most athletes do, especially if your in a sport that involves a lot of touring (i know a ton of tennis players complain about it a lot)

i'm not particularly keen on olympic cricket either, which would be twenty20 anyway, althought I thought the indians would have seeing as they don't pick up a great deal of medals and this would be an area they had a chance in. so for me, it's no great loss yet.

all i can say is that cricket was heading in a right direction when england had a major say in it.. Now when india has a major say in it, cricket quality is nose diving....

shd be the administrative quality betw the two countries!!!
