As I said in another thread, I'm not liking the shift in the Big Bash. Suddenly the weakest side in the competition over the last decade or so in South Australia is the dominant team in the competition, and much of it has to do with their overseas signings (Kieron Pollard and Shahid Afridi). One suspects that the players are lifting because of renewed confidence, due in part to the guidance of Pollard and Afridi, but is it really going to benefit South Australia in the long term? What happens when that crutch is removed - won't they just fall even harder.

The Big Bash should be an opportunity to trial youngsters who aren't in the best FC or OD XI, and continue the goal of domestic cricket which is paving the way towards international cricket. I just don't feel the best interests of Australian cricket are being served, even if it does attract higher crowds and more TV viewers.

Oh well, at least New South Wales didn't make it this time

There is the flip side where the money generated by these imports can be used to help develop grass root cricket and help with other junior development plans. I can't really see it hurting SA cricket anyway, they have given some of their youngsters a go in the other two formats. Being part of the Champions League will be a great experience for some of the youngsters and they could come back a lot more confident after it. Worst case things don't go too well and they learn things about themselves that they wouldn't have learnt in the Aussie comp.

TBH, most teams do play their youngsters in all comps and gives everybody a go. It's not like sometimes in the AFL where people could not play a game for the whole season.

Chunku Prince, I agree with you. Given the way Douggie celebrated last yr after winning the CLT20, I expected a bit more from NSW this time round
