I watched a vid saying it would be called the T20 Big Bash League. Teams to be sold for up to 80 million. Big shot Indians will just buy the teams and then India will run this as well.

wont be worth it after the first year I'd say, not sure how big a crowds you'd get consistently for 5 weeks.

CA have sold out then...

... not even the reign of Giles Clarke has made the ECB sell out.

I am an idiot. I voted yes before even reading the first post which said Indians will buy it out and One Day Cricket will be scrapped.

Well I've got mixed feelings. First this will be good for cricket in Aus - hopefully more crowds and more investors = more money. More money = better development, more sponsors etc etc.
I also don't care if players from different areas get picked on different teams. Look at South Australia already, they have stacks of guys from other states. Even the Vics have lots with Chris Rogers, Damien Wright, Dave Hussey, John Hastings. So it's really not that important to me.

But of course there are reservations here:
First I don't want some 6 week long tournament that drags and drags. I say make it short and sweet. Everyone play each other once and that gives you 28 matches, plus your finals.
Second, I don't want international cricket to be culled. Cut out half the state Ryobi matches if you want to cut something.
Third, it's T20 cricket :( I hate that the major building block for Cricket Australia is hit and giggle stuff

I hope each state is allowed too keep 5-6 of their native players. It'll just be weird if George Bailey or Tim Paine is playing against Tasmania.

Well I think they are NOT going to have an auction, just a salary cap, which makes it more likely that the state players will stay. I imagine QLD would have to pay a lot of cash to get Brad Hodge for example, and their local players would be far more receptive to a contract offer because I can't imagine too many players wanting to move to another city for a month every year. They'd have to be getting some good compensation.

The other thing to come out of this: if Cricket Australia clears the January calendar to let the international stars play, what happens to the IPL? Personally I'd love the Aussie stars to say, nup we're playing the Big Bash and that's it. Stuff the IPL :) I'm sure the guys who'd retired like Hayden, Warne, Gilchrist etc. would still play IPL, but I would think the current Aussie players IPL participation would drop a lot.

The current Aussie players have barely played in the last 2 IPL's anyways. The former Aussie players opinions don't count since they become 100% tools for IPL and the BCCI.

Just look at any statements made by Gilly, Warne or Hayden now, its pretty shameless the way they are just product spokesmen now for the IPL. Their opinions are worthless as they are paid stooges.

Ok let me get this. So Indians will go to Australia and buy out teams and make APL? And Aus agreed to this?

Which teams are they buying?

No they can't buy controlling shares in the teams. Only 33% or maybe 49% if Cricket Australia feel generous. It's just a way to encourage more cash into Australian cricket.

I think its exciting actually. Looking forward to it. Hopefully it wont be as crass as the IPL, but im not hopeful. Of course i'm biased but cricket looks better in Australia, especially on TV. Some of the crummy indian grounds look awful on tv.

It's exciting but do you want it to replace OD Cricket in Australia?
