Blank Bats

I don't understand why players who no longer play international cricket have to use bats without stickers. Surely they can use what ever they want. Ive seen Andrew Symonds and Matthew Hayden using blank bats, however Gilchrist still uses his Puma. Is this just a Gray Nichols thing? if so i would still buy a bat that had stickers on it. bats look ugly without them.

They don't have stickers on them probably because they don't have a bat deal. If players played with stickered bats without a bat deal what type of idiot would give them one?

Yeah, I've been wondering about this for a couple of days.

Why do world class players like Murali, Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath use absolutely shocking bat when they are possible the three greatest bowlers ever?

It's obviously not money, and I don't think it's because the bat suits them better.

Is it because you are not allowed to use a stickered bat for international cricket if you do not have a deal with the company? But then what's the difference between international cricket and juniors?

Even Chris Rogers, a top class batsman for WA uses a pretty sub standard bat. I could name some more as well.

But are you allowed to use a stickered bat, say Adam Gilchrist's Puma if you take off the stickers?

I think Gilly has a lifetime deal with Puma thats why he uses it............Other batsmen find it easier to use plain bats rather then the hassle of re kitting their gear with new gear unless they get a sponsor.

They're custom made bats and don't have a sponsor. Lots of domestic players do this.

Even grade cricketers get custom made bats. It's well know that a lot of top cricketers, including Australian captains, have over the years gotten bats made by Paul Bradbury, for example.

Even Yuvraj Singh used it for some time after T20 World cup 2007 till IPL 08.
It was IPL 08 when Yuvraj got Reebok as bat sponsor with a new logo.(If I am not wrong)

If you see bat with no sticker means the batter's deal with sponsor ended and he is declaring himself free.

Adam Gilchrist doesnt use Puma bats, he uses Puma bat stickers. Most cricketers who play in international level use bats from an English brand i cant remember the name of What i`m trying to say is, Roy and Haydos are still using the same bats they used when playing test cricket, just without the stickers. Dont see the difference really.

Lots of talk about bats going on, it doesn't rally matter about the sticker although it looks ugly without em, it's not like it affects form but maybe if a player has a good bat he feels good bout himself and plays better aye?

Agree with Troy.
I think most of their bats are specially made for each individual batsmen.
They are then paid to put the stickers on their bats by certain companies (Kookaburra, GM, Puma etc.) so people like us go out and buy that companies bat.

I think Gilchrist does have some sort of life time deal with Puma. The Puma Cricket website always seems to have updates photos of him and other sponsored players advertising the newest gear. And I could be wrong, but aren't Deccan Charger's sponsored by Puma anyway?
