Anyone here read this bit in the Age today? It says that Bob holds the record for longest time spent as captain, 5237 days. I emailed the author to dispute this fact, Simpson was retired for the best part of ten years before he came back for 5 months as captain, surely this time cannot be included as time spent being captain. In all he was captain for 39 tests, 3 years from 64-67, and again in 77/78. The Age author is not budging! Am I wrong?

Yea I'm with you on that, surely the time when he was retired can't count.

Its basically saying he was captain from 1964 to 1978, thats a long time! Border captained 93 tests yet only racked up 3000 odd days as captain, so the article is very wrong. The same applies to Greg Chappell and Kim Hughes, both had multiple stints yet the article counts the entire time. Chappell wasnt captain from 75 to 83.

Yeah cuz Greg Chappell has a period there where he was Captain for home series then didn't go on tour. Plus he quit the captaincy after the 82-82 Ashes series.
