The Fearnley cricket website (FAQ section) states:

Q. How often should I change my helmet?
A. Helmets are designed to only take one blow. A helmet is then considered to have done its job and you should replace it. Once a helmet has been struck in whatever circumstance, i.e. dropping it or a ball striking it, then its structure will weaken and not perform as it is designed to.

Is this true? Has anyone found the helmet to be weaker after they get hit once?

I would not risk it. The structural integrity of the helmet is ruined after a strong blow. If you happen to get hit again in the same spot it could cave in. I am not willing to risk brain damage for some 100 odd dollars.

Well I know once a motorbike helmet even hits the floor you have to get a knew one. Don't know if it works like that for cricket helmets. Can't see why though :/

Its true, if its tapped, then it'll probably be alright, but if you've taken a strong knock, its not worth the risk. Especially if there is obvious damage.

I surprised that many people bother with a helmet, a decent club level player, ok from then you might start facing serious bowlers but I'm obviously a lot cacker than you lot.

I doubt I've faced a ball over 75mph.

I suppose you might want the grill to protect a ball hitting your teeth (my dad lost his two front teeth playing cricket) but I can't imagine the structural integrity of a helmet being damaged to such a degree you'll get knocked out.

but yeah, probably do replace it anyway, I don't want you suing me. or your relatives rather.
