Seems as if I've got myself a 3-way tie for first place. But there can only be one winner...

TIEBREAKER (only for Aditya, joejoe18 and Jack Ryder): Whoever sends me a PM first with the correct answer to the tiebreaker question gets the opportunity to present the Man of the Match award and gives a short interview.

Question: Who wins the Man of the Match?
Refer to the scorecards I've attached to the end of each innings' post and tell me. In the event that none of you give me the correct answer, I'll just roll some dice to choose a winner.

In the interest of fairness and because I know people may not be online everyday, I am not accepting any answers for the next two days. As in, if you send your answer to this question anytime before Saturday at 8am GMT, it will be ignored. Following that you have three further days to answer.

It might sound confusing but basically the three of you...don't send me PMs with your answer until Saturday.

The winner will be contacted via PM.

Thanks to everyone who entered and thanks for reading so far!

Feeling robbed, one ball, one ball...

Great write up, again with the analysis and depth, amazing.

Excellent for the Windies, Ireland who must've been considered 'favourites' must be cursing themselves.

Keep it up

I don't know GMT timezone I am AEST and it 6:12 here. Is this American please tell me when to PM @qpeedore

Can't decide between Omari Banks or McClean for man of the match.
Quick Poll:
Thank my post for Banks
Quote my message and comment 'McClean' for McClean.
Quickly everyone :p If this cheating @qpeedore you can tell me but this just for entertainment and a bit of fun.

Let the luck take it's own course, I've send my guess to qpeedore. :D

We have a winner, folks. Joejoe wins and will be featured in the post match presentation. Just waiting on his reply and that presentation plus a detailed match analysis will be up.

I have been reading this silently, should say - You should have been there during the classic PC era where there was healthy competition with many potential writers like you.

I will try my best to keep active here and keep posting as much as I can. Good luck mate, keep it going.:cheers

Of course. I lead a highly unpredictable life and the real world has gotten the better of me over the past couple of weeks (not to mention the World Cup).

Expect my post match analysis tonight, preview for the next match, and more.

IB: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, Ian Bishop here with the post-match presentation ceremony. First of all, let me introduce the panel just behind me, comprising of ICC representative Jeremy Longfellow, local bowling legend Courtney Walsh, and finally the man of the match selector Lionel Messi. Not the footballer, mind you, but nonetheless an extremely important man at the moment. First of all, I invite the captain of the Irish team to come up and say a few words. William, tough luck today.

WP: Yeah, I really thought we could have posted maybe twenty more runs on the board at least and that would have made things more interesting. Credit to the West Indian bowlers though, they stuck to their game plan and it wasn't very easy to get them away.

IB: You would have been hoping to get a win in this match against what people are terming a weakened West Indies team.

WP: Well, coming to the West Indies we all thought we would have been facing the big guns, you know the Gayles and Pollards and whatnot, but then we heard the news and yeah, it made us think it might have been a different sort of game. But we didn't underestimate them by any means. Things just didn't click today for us and we just have to go back to the nets and have our team talks and come up good against England in the next match.

IB: Thank you, William. And now, I'd like to invite the winning captain, Omari Banks of the West Indies. First he will collect a cheque from Mr. Longfellow and if he can come this way...yes, Omari...a good way to open up your tournament with a win, and also some runs to your own name as well.

OB: Thank you, Mr. Bishop. Yes, it's great to start off with a win. It gives everyone a lot of confidence and with a victory now behind us, it's up to look to the next one.

IB: What would you say was the key to the West Indies' victory today?

OB: I would have to say the bowlers set the match up nicely for the batsmen to play an easy second innings. To bowl any team out under 20 overs is no small feat, and the guys did that without conceding too many runs. They stuck to what they knew best and they pulled it off. Credit goes to them, and then the batsmen came out in the second innings and played with intent to overhaul the total.

IB: Would you say England may be in for a surprise or two in your next match?

OB: We can always be competitive with any team in the world once we stick to the basics. England shouldn't underestimate us.

IB: Thank you. Omari Banks, ladies and gentlemen. And now, we come to the man of the match. I'll ask Mr. Messi to announce that himself. Lionel, what were your thoughts on the match as a whole?

LM: The match was well played by the West Indies. McClean and Banks were definitely the two that stood out for me though. Some good bowling by the West Indies, the pitch seemed to be playing tricks on the Irish batsman with Connell making 28, the only one to pass 11. West Indies did not start their batting too well but got the hang of it in the mid overs of the game. A good performance from the West Indies overall.

IB: Did you expect that sort of performance from the home team?

LM: West Indies bowlers did definitely have the pitch on their side. They seem to be deceiving the batsman with the cracks on the pitch. We had McClean taking four wickets also Stoute and Kelly taking two each.

IB: Who was your selection for the man of the match?

LM: I was leaning towards Omari Banks but took a look at Ireland's innings and McClean stood out with 4/19 for his bowling. Without him, I'm not sure how West Indies would of got Ireland all out for under 100. He definitely performed well and deserved man of the match.

IB: Thank you, Mr. Messi. And we see Kevin McClean collecting his award from Courtney Walsh, the first man to break the 500 wicket barrier in Test matches...Kevin...a few words, please.

KM: Good evening, Mr. Bishop.

IB: Good evening, Kevin. First of all congratulations on your bowling performance and helping your side to victory. What was your strategy when you ran in?

KM: I think it was just to do the basics right. Put the ball in the right areas and try to keep the scoring down. Everytime the batsman missed, or I got a wicket, it helped my confidence.

IB: It must be a wonderful feeling to be playing out there in the middle in international cricket.

KM: Growing up my dream was to play cricket for the West Indies and now I'm here and my first match is over. Hopefully it's the start of a long career at the top for me.

IB: Thank you, Kevin. Well, that about does it for the presentation. Both the West Indies and Ireland have a match each left to play in the group stage, and they will both have to face England. We'll see how those matches go, as well as all the other matches in the preliminary phase of this World Cup T20 in the West Indies. Good evening.

----------

A great win in a match that I honestly expected to lose. The bowlers came up big time for me, and I hope they can keep those sorts of performances up. I have no problems with my bowling lineup. Batting, however...I might need to change things up a little.

Chattergoon is good for staying there and letting guys play around him. That's the role I want to have him as. But he's doing the "staying there" part a bit too well. I started with him on two bars of aggression and he had been scoring singles well. Up the aggression and he actually slowed down. Bring it back down and he gets run out. Do I keep him for the England match or bring in someone else? I...don't know...

Perkins disappointed but with the prior one T20I, he actually makes up some of the game's one star team rating for my team. He'll have to stay.

Hyatt made a two-ball duck. Meh. It happens. He doesn't need to be dropped for that.

Lewis had a cameo and showed me enough to remain in the squad. There's one for the future. I'll be following him closely.

Banks did excellently for his batting effort. Enough said. Browne supported him well near the end as well.

I might make some changes for the next match. But then again...change a winning combination? It's a hard call...

EDIT: By the way, congrats to joejoe18 for winning the prediction contest for the first match! Remember, I am going to keep the contest going in the next one...the winner of the next match "decides" the man of the match award and gives an interview, just like joejoe did in this one! AND...the winner overall for the tournament gets an even bigger prize!

West Indies vs. England
World T20, Group D

West Indies come into this match with a win to their name already in the group stage. They are all but guaranteed a spot in the next phase of the competition with that victory. Even if they lose to England today, they would need Ireland to beat England in the next match for net run rates to be a consideration.

Their bowling attack performed superbly in the opening match and they will want more of the same today. If the bowlers can give them even a fraction of the effort they put out last time around, England will need to play well to score big in this one.

On the English side of things, they will want to beat the West Indies and beat them well in order to assert themselves as a strong T20 team. They will have seen the last match and studied the footage and made their notes.

It may not be the pushover they would have expected, but England should have no problems with this match.

Conditions and pitch

This match is a day/night affair, and humidity is pretty high today. Dew may just be a factor for whoever fields second. It will probably be difficult to keep the ball dry, and that will affect the spinners and negate any sort of potential swing that may be on offer for the quicks.

The pitch itself is quite flat and the ball will come onto the bat with no real pace. The batsmen will be free to play through the line of the ball and score on either side of the wicket, no matter the bowler. It ultimately looks like a long, hard, and fruitless day for the bowlers and a promising day for the batsmen.

Teams

WEST INDIES

Sewnarine Chattergoon (Bat)
Romel Currency (Bat)
Danza Hyatt (VC ? Bat)
Evin Lewis (Bat)
Omari Banks (CAPT ? All)
Kevin Stoute (All)
Patrick Browne (WKB)
Rayad Emrit (Bowl)
Richard Kelly (Bowl)
Dave Mohammed (Bowl)
Kevin McClean (Bowl)

One change to the West Indies squad, with opener William Perkins giving up his spot to Romel Currency. An otherwise unchanged team, and focus will be on the bowlers without a doubt.

Watch out for

Kevin Stoute ? While everyone talked about his namesake Kevin McClean, Stoute was the one who showed that he can move the ball both ways and he puts a lot of thought into his bowling, knowing how to set up a wicket.

Omari Banks ? A cool head on his shoulders, he took his team home with barely any pressure showing on his face. His team will be looking for him to lead by example once again.

ENGLAND

Craig Kieswetter (WKB)
Michael Lumb (Bat)
Kevin Pietersen (CAPT ? Bat)
Eoin Morgan (Bat)
Ravi Bopara (All)
Paul Collingwood (All)
Graeme Swann (Bowl)
Tim Bresnan (All)
Stuart Broad (Bowl)
Ryan Sidebottom (Bowl)
Jimmy Anderson (Bowl)

England are not holding back for this match. Make no doubt about it, this is a team that would give any team a run for their money in a T20 International.

Watch out for

Eoin Morgan ? While not the flashiest of players or the one everyone speaks of, what he gives to his team in terms of consistency is perhaps more valuable than fireworks.

Jimmy Anderson ? He has the skill to make the top batsmen in the world look like amateurs. Today, he will be aiming to run through the West Indies batting order.

The toss

The captains are out in the middle for this sacred pre-match ritual. As the coin is tossed, tails is the call and as it lands and the match referee makes the call, Pietersen smiles and shakes the hand of Banks. He has won the toss and decides to put the West Indies in to bat. It is one thing to chase a total, he says. It is another thing to set it. Plus, bowling will be harder if there is dew around later on.

Banks says that he would have liked to bowl first as well, but he can't win every coin toss. The guys are ready to go out there and perform, and he says that with the confidence that they have after the last match, this match will go their way if they play well.

----------

Prediction contest (essentially same as always, with one extra):

1. What score will West Indies make? (5 points for getting within 10 runs of their score, 10 points for getting within 2 runs over or under, 20 points for nailing the exact score)

2. Who takes the most wickets for England? (5 points)

3. Who top scores for West Indies? (5 points)

4. What score will the top scorer for West Indies make? (as above, 5 points for within 10 runs, 10 points for within 2 runs, 20 for the exact score)

5. Will West Indies survive the full 20 overs? (5 points)

6. First person to reply with their predictions gets 5 extra points, second person gets 3 extra points, third person gets 1 extra point.
