Durban's impregnable top-order suffered from a rare failure with Shane Watson, Hashim Amla and Ross Taylor all falling cheaply. They were down and seemingly out at 95/6. But the match was far from over in the eyes of Dale Benkenstein and Vernon Philander. The pair added 108 runs for the 7th wicket to bring Durban back from the dead. Their tail continued to wag following Benkenstein's untimely dismissal, but Liverpool's bowlers managed to hold their nerve and bowl their team to a tense 12-run victory.
Graeme Swann was the pick of the bowlers, but it was Paul Stirling who turned the most number of heads in his direction. The part-time offspinner conceded just 20 runs from his 10 allotted overs whilst picking the wickets of Ross Taylor and Zander de Bruyn. This defeat is unlikely to prevent the Durban Bulldogs from booking a semi-final berth, as their net run rate still stands head and shoulders above the rest in their group.
