Chappell-Hadlee One Day Series (December 2016)

I am watching George Bailey after a long time but what the hell is that batting stance?
Right Handed Chanderpaul :p

Oh btw not that I care if you consider him 'elite' or not. A guy averaging 50 plus in all three formats and has dominated all bowlers all around the world. Anyways for me'

Test
1) smith
2) kohli
3) williamson
4) root

Odi
1) kohli
2) smith
3) williamson
4) root[DOUBLEPOST=1480840977][/DOUBLEPOST]Also I have always seen, an Indian guy no matter how awesome he playes is always downplayed. Its funny this thing happened to Sachin in Ponting Lara era, now Kohli. Once again not that I care as numbers and performance speaks volume not your or my opinion

And Duminy 32.
When he is in form trust me he is a much better classy batsman then Root and Smith. The only problem with him is his consistency

This is getting interesting............

People not rating Virat Kohli in the same category as Root, Williamson and Smith is beyond me.

I will start with the limited overs format where I think Virat Kohli is best in the world. The knock that Smith played yesterday was amazing but people often forget that Virat Kohli has been playing knocks like this since 2012. I wouldn't even put Steve Smith, Joe Root and Kane Williamson in the same category as Virat Kohli when it comes to limited overs format. The only two players who deserves the top category in the limited overs format right now is Kohli and AB and because Kohli is so consistent, I think he is even better than AB.

Now coming to the longer format, If someone told me that Kohli is not in the same category as the other 3 last year, I would have agreed. However, looking at it right now, I think he definitely deserves a place in that category. He didn't have a double century even in first class games before this year and now he has 2 this year. That inning that he played against England in the second inning in Vizag is one of the best inning I have seen recently. It was a pitch where every single batsmen struggled to score runs from both sides and he scored 81 with a strike rate of 74. Again, I am not saying he is the best in the world in the longer format of the game. In fact, he is behind Steve Smith, Joe Root and Kane Williamson in this format but to say he is not even in the same category as them is just silly.

It's also funny when people bring up that England series whenever Virat Kohli's name is mentioned. Somehow failing in one series means you are not a great player. Joe Root averages in 17 in New Zealand and averages 27 in Australia. Williamson averages 21 in South Africa, 30 in England and 35 in India. Steve Smith average 34 in UAE. So, those series are never mentioned when these players are debated. However, as soon as Virat Kohli's name comes up, the first thing people do is bring up that series in England. It's about how you come back from the failure that shows the greatness of the player.

Great to see Hilton Cartwright there. The guy can be a Stokes-esque presence in the Australian team, albeit a less aggressive one. Not entirely convinced with having Maxwell in the squad.
Maxwell imo needs to be more consistent :)

With all respect to Kohli, India dominates on their own pitches. His overseas record is mediocre. Whereas the like of Root, Williamson have made a name by consistently performing in overseas conditions. A lot of his scores have also come batting first on flat tracks once the likes of Vijay and Pujara have dealt with the early swing.

Obviously, you can't have a go at Kohli as India organizing majority of games at home, but when he starts hitting those big hundreds overseas, you can put him in the class of Williamson, Root etc.

On topic though, Australia getting back on their groove back heading in to Pakistan series. A comprehensive win. Disappointed not to see Khawaja in the line-up, he seemed a good pick for a number 3 batsmen.

Of course we do and that is a fact but the tone with which you have said this makes me feel that you haven't followed Indian home cricket in past 2 years. The kind of pitches we have played on, not just overseas but even our own batsman has struggled to score runs.

His overseas record is mediocre.

He averages 62 in Australia, 68 in South Africa and 71 in NZ. We all know that he struggled in England but those are the 4 countries that a Sub-continent batsman is judged upon for their overseas performance. I don't see much mediocrity there.

A lot of his scores have also come batting first on flat tracks once the likes of Vijay and Pujara have dealt with the early swing.

As I said earlier in this post, you haven't seen much of India's home cricket in the past 2 years and this comment just proves that. Also whenever Kohli makes runs, it is a flat track but as soon as he fails to score the pitch is not so flat anymore.

Obviously, you can't have a go at Kohli as India organizing majority of games at home, but when he starts hitting those big hundreds overseas, you can put him in the class of Williamson, Root etc.

Just to let you know, In 2013 home season, we played 2 tests. In 2014 home season, we did not play a single test. In 2015 home season, we played 3 tests. So there is a reason behind BCCI organizing a huge home series this time around because we have only played 5 tests in our last 3 home seasons. When India did this, the so called experts from cricket community said that BCCI is going to destroy test cricket because they are not arranging enough test matches for home crowd to watch and get interested in. Now the same so called experts are saying that India is playing too many test matches at home because we have a 13 match home season this time around. So it's a lose-lose situation.
