Computer screen keeps shaking (ATI Graphics card)

Hey Guys,

I'm not really that much of a genius when it comes to computers. Lately, I've been having this problem, the computer screen continuously keeps shaking.
At first I received the "VPU" error, but now once I install graphics card drivers, they just uninstall themselves, which results in the computer screen shaking and sometimes eventually going "black" and shutting down.

I was just hoping there might be a short term fix or whether I should just rip out that ATI card and get an Nvidia.

Any help would be appreciated.
:cheers

It would also help if you could say what operating system you are running, might be that the drivers don't like your OS.

Tried degaussing the monitor??? sometimes it's got to do with magnetic waves.

try shifting the speakers (or any other magnetic substance) away from the monitor...

is it a CRT or LCD??? coz this thing is generally true for CRT's only...

It's an LCD screen, and I'm pretty sure its not the monitor because I have connected my old computer and the screen is perfectly fine, so I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the graphics card itself.

I think you can be fairly certain that its the graphics card that's at fault. I've not seen a card fail in that way, but its unlikely to be a software issue, probably you are going to need to replace the card.

Yeah, I best replace the card. Disappointed though, this is the second time in two years that the card has had a problem. Firstly the fan stopped working, and now it's completely stuffed.

From now on though, I'm an nVidia man;)

It's probably not generally a good idea to lump all ATi or NVidia cards into two piles. Different car manufacturers use different techniques/parts when making cards, so you get good ATI manufacturers, you get bad ones and the same is true for nvidia. It's a good idea to check the specs a little deeper than just the chip type. Best advise is to check the user comments on websites selling the cards, as its almost guaranteed that a bunch of techies have already tried the card out.

Obviously a fan failure is not down to the chip type, but rather down to the fact that it was probably a cheap chinese fan that the card manufacturer buys for about the same price as you'd pay for a piece of chewing gum thats been used already. (I'll take it for granted that you don't have some sort of wierd chewing gum fettish and wouldn't pay good money for used gum!)

lol Kev nice work with the gum ^.^ :P

but its definitely important to get a card made by a quality manufacturer.

quality manufacturers use better parts for their cards, in order to boost performance and the life of the card itself. some good graphics cards manufacturers that are popular are ASUS, XFX, eVGA, MSI, Gigabyte Tech., Sapphire Tech....

theres a bigger list here :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_computer_hardware_manufacturers#Graphics_cards

I get exactly the same problem. :(

But only sometimes. And when you scroll down on the internet, it shakes kinda.

I replaced the graphics card and everything was back to normal! How nice it was to see the screen not shaking continuously!!

It apparently had nothing to do with the fan, the card just gave up.

In the end, I got a computer specialist to get me a new card and install it etc.

I have no idea when it comes time for all this computer talk!
