if there's one thing bugging me about the game it's the controller input for R3 which is to leave the ball. I swear if I get out bowled or lbw one more time because in my excitement of picking line and length and depressing the right stick as I'm playing the shot I end up leaving the ball. Arrrgggg!

Also, the buttons L&R 1 & 2 are too confusing unless I'm predetermining the shot. I Don't have the dexterity to use those buttons on the fly in all the possible combinations to maximise shot placement.

Anyone else feel like there not using the buttons to their maximum potential without of course predetermining?

I can't even play a regular shot without pre-meditating the shot and you are asking about selecting modifiers (L1, L2, R1, R2 etc.) without any sort of pre-determination :lol Not gonna happen unless we get to determine the ling & length fraction before the ball is bowled, i.e. the line & length info is included in the bowling donut around the ball when it's about to leave the bowler's hand.

And a slider setting should be made available to select how early or late user can see the information. For someone like me who has a slow reaction time, I would love to know the info about 0.8 secs before the ball is bowled. For a person with lightening reflexes, the info should be displayed .2 sec before the delivery is bowled. This range or slider setting should vary from 1 sec (slowest) to 0 sec (where you never see line & length info beforehan) with 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8 secs settings in between. At the very least this can be done against AI bowling coz you may not get all the inputs to display in case the bowler is a human opponent.

Tagging @fiction and @HBK619 as this approach will make batting lot more accessible and fun.

I have never had this problem as yet. I keep my thumbs lightly on the sticks

That would be perfect. Even better than a "ball speed" slider which is what they were considering to add in Patch 3. Line info might be difficult to provide 1 second prior to delivery but even if it includes length (colour), that would be of great help since you would have a heads-up on whether to go back or play front much earlier.

I would prefer any mechanism which allows me to play a non pre-meditated shot.

It takes me a while to get used to fast bowlers when i first start. But after a few overs it gets easy to see the line. I generaaly use a fix point like the umpire to see what angle the ball is coming from. But when it comes to length, i just dont have time to judge the color and to play a backfoot shot. I play everything on the front foot. Like the post above, anything that helps me with that will be helpful. Right now all the aggressive shots or defensive shot is very premeditated.

i find i genuinely have form in the game. line is relatively easy to pick up (as israr says), but length more so. however i do find there are times when i can respond to the length of the ball even against quicker bowlers. however, there are other times when i probably do have to rely on premeditation more than i'd like to.

But i genuinely find if i try to just play an appropriate shot to the line, it generally doesn't matter if it's front or back foot.

I agree, I play almost 100% front foot shots, and the only balls that really bother me then, is the bouncers. I have tried a couple of times to play back foot exclusively when a fast bowler is bowling, but will have to spend more time on it, to say if it works better for me. But all other bowlers are front foot, regardless of what they bowl (line/length).

It does if you try playing a back foot flick to the on side off a full pitched delivery. Your batsman jumps across the stumps to the off with the ball crashing in to the stumps behind his @$$. Maybe if you could play a flick shot to full pitched deliveries off the back foot, you could use back foot lot more.

Just making the batsman stay in the stance he has taken without moving across regardless of the foot position used will make it better to play both on back and front foot....

That's where line would come in though? I would generally defend or drive balls hitting the stump.

I think I have been lucky so far as I haven't really had this issue affecting me :)

This happened to me numerous times the last few hours in online matches. Got me furious, especially when afterward, I look at my thumb position, thinking "Have I moved it there, or is it the game", because my thumb is still aiming where I wanted to play, wbut the batsman decides he feels like doing some kind of twerking dance move.lol

Flicking a straight ball on the stumps is a pretty legitimate shot and we shouldn't be forced to defend or drive the balls on the stumps. The whole "batsman jumping across the stumps" part needs to be rectified.
