Craig Kieswetter qualifies for England

I was confused by what happened. Lumb seemed to be out but then came back to bat and finish off the innings?

Another brilliant knock from Kieswetter, illustrating our point yet again.

Lumb retired out. Given that he came back to finish off the game I presume it was to give some of the other batters a hit given him and Kieswetter were coasting it.

Well luckily that didn't backfire. The rest of the Lions batsmen were awful. Lumb is another player I rate good enough to at least be in the England squad. I prefer him to Denly.

I have heard alot of people praise Kieswetters batting. But what do people think of his wicket keeping? Particually in comparision to Davies.
Would certainly be interesting to see who would be picked if prior was injured.

Jacques Rudolph.... how long does he have to go for qualifying?

Also, this seems to be a unique way the SA players are choosing to get back at their board.

Reading on the BBC, he had to go off for treatment after being hit in the helmet. So he retired hurt and then came back in when he was needed.

Read my comments on the last page. I haven't seen enough of Davies keeping to compare but here are their stats from last season:

First Class:
Davies - 14 matches, 39 catches and 2 stumpings
Kieswetter - 16 matches, 48 catches and 0 stumpings

One Day:
Davies - 16 matches, 8 catches and 7 stumpings
Kieswetter - 16 matches, 11 catches and 6 stumpings

Twenty20:
Davies - 10 matches, 3 catches and 2 stumpings
Kieswetter - 12 matches, 8 catches and 5 stumpings

I don't think the stats mean anything. Whether a ball is nicked to the keeper is to do with luck, the same goes with the oppurtunities to stump. Catch to drop ratio, might be a better indicator (although I don't think the stat exists).

Yeah I know, but you can still get a fairly good idea. I mean most keepers throughout the course of a season will get roughly the same amount of chances per game. Kieswetter was among the top keepers in all forms dismissals wise. He also had at least one run out which was pure class. He's a solid keeper and an excellent batsman, which is what England selectors usually look for.

Why? What has he done to deserve a place in the England side? He has a terrible record with the ball in ODi's and has only fired with the bat on very few occasions. He didn't even have a good season last year with the ball. Napier's a much better bowler, which is the important point in the position he'd bat. Think Dimi's hugely over-rated tbh.

Firstly i would only pick Mascarenhas if Flintoff is playing, where he can bat @ 8. England selectors made the mistake of thinking he was an ODI quality #7 (once can always depend on the selectors to make crap ODI selections/decisions) & he struggled there. Also he would fit in well to a bowling attack of Anderson/Broad/Flintoff/Dimi/Swann/Colly.

In such a bowling attack Dimi would work perfect as a bowler who can bowl in the middle-overs & really be economical & take wickets on occassions, especially if the new ball-attack has taken top order wickets as he did in these ODIs:

- Barbados 09

- Lord's 07

Also Birmingham & Southampton 07.

Of course these circumstances wont always happen & he could be expensive on occassions. But ENG just need to know how to use in the ODI side & he would a very useful addition to a best ODI XI (which includes Flintoff).

On Napier he is better batsman than Dimi yea, but not a better bowler. Currently i sort of reckon Napier should be the ODI squad batting @ 7 instead of Wright.

War added 2 Minutes and 15 Seconds later...

Have seen a fair bit of Davies & Kieswetter as keepers on skyposrts in the last 2 years. I would give Davies a slight edge as a glovesman.

Struggling to see how Napier isn't a better bowler than Mascarenhas. How much have you seen of Napier? He bowls at 87-90mph consistently, is accurate, gets a bit of movement and is good at the death, what more could you want?

Nah KP i think you have to check that back. Napier doesn't bowl that fast. The last time i remember seeing him bowl was in the IPL last year for the Mumbai Indians & he bowls about the same pace as Luke Wright. Plus i have seen a fair few times bowling on skysports over the years.

I have never really payed keen attention to his bowling i'll admit, so i can't comment with any certainty on what his strenghts & weaknessses may be. But the times i have seen him, he has looked a fairly average bowler.

His batting is what i rate.

:laugh You've been sucked into the David Lloyd hype I'm afraid, his batting is nowhere near his strong point, he's very much a bowling all-rounder. I've seen Graham Napier bowl on a number of occasions in the last couple of years, and I assure you, he does bowl that fast. I noticed it 2 seasons ago, and actually e-mailed the Sky team to ask them if the speed guns were working right, as Napier was being consistently timed above 90. It was just I'd never noticed him bowling before. He bustles in a bit like Luke Wright, but he's got a very, very good technical bowling action (most of the stills used in Ian Pont's book are of Napier, he's developed a very good action biomechanically) and is genuinely quick.

Hmm interesting. I have to see him bowl again though, remind me in the upcoming domestic season to watch him bowl.
