Cricket Academy Update#6 (Version 0.95) - Live! (and early :) )

Everyone's excited when there's a Cricket Academy Update :yes

Thank goodness you didnt use the variation used in a small province in the north of Laos accredited to the Sang Wal Hong tribe: " say hong man jacarte weh ra mors di Bourke Street".

Roughly translated: I'll stick my Third Umpire in every cappuccino along Bourke Street and give it a good stir.....

....they love their cappuccino up there.....

well my mind just got blown going through the match type editor ...

one thing that it probably was missing unless i completely missed it was number of bouncers allowed per over...

Ladies and Gentlemen,

My name is Varun and I have been on Planet Cricket for a few years now, mostly as a reader but I have also posted on a handful of occassions (you can count the number of posts on your fingertips). :)

I have read each and every page of the Big Ant and Ashes Cricket 13 forums and I am eagerly anticipating the release of Big Ant Cricket. Based on the current state of affairs, Ashes 13 is going to act as an appetizer before we can lay our hands on the full course which is Big Ant.

I would also like to thank Ross and Mike for all the information they have shared. Their passion for the game which is evident from the amount of time that they have spent on the game and the innovation and imagination that they have displayed.

There is a small question that I have been meaning to ask for a few days now.....The Cricket Academy is absolutely fantastic and unprecedented for a Cricket Game, but considering Ross's quest for perfection.....I was wondering if a Face Import feature is something that could have been included for the Player Creator wherein one could import an Image File of a Player or a Person and the application mimicks the face to a great extent.

Given that you have the possibility of using Oculus in the game, I am pretty sure that this thought would have crossed your head. I am just curious to know how hard this would have been implement and whether it is technically feasible or not, but it would have taken the Player Models to an all new level. Please respond.:cheers

Just trying to get my head around the detail in the match type editor, but have been noticing that randomly it is impossible to select some of the items with the mouse - for example the 'umpire uniform' option, I can hover anywhere on it or around it, click on that spot and nothing happens, but I can select it with the keys.

Seems to happen at random in some of the other options in there too.

Found the issue. There are two spots on the screen that the mouse click is "dead", if the option you want has moved into that dead zone then it can't be clicked, keyboard still works.

We have fixed this and will upload it this morning but as it is not a huge issue it will not be a new release.

Without ever having played the actual game I know this will become my favourite game ever. The match editor is frikkin magic all on its own.

what does the match editor involve? also could you please link me to the latest version?

I do wish I had said a metacritic rating as a prerequisite...
Considering that BLIC07 is the top ranked cricket game on metacritic, I don't think that's relevant. Say what you will about AC09, but it isn't a worse game than BLIC07.

Can I also note my slight disappointment there's no untimed test option, but my delight at the options of ball colour and to have two innings in a one day match.

Just didn't think of it! Sorry! We will make sure that is in patch#1

Bouncers per over per batsman are in, as are further field restrictions and power play related options. The code that is used in the Cricket Academy isn't the latest, in technical terms "it was branched off" quite a while ago. This is one of the reasons I debated the Match Type Designers' release. It does show you a bit of what is in the final game but not all.

Yeah, exactly, and that is why I would have liked to base it on the Metacritic :yes

PS: On an somewhat unrelated note, you know they try and tie us dev's to the Metacritic and make the score part of the contract to try and lower the dev fees and royalties ?!?#$!@!

Wouldn't "timeless" tests stump the AI? Will the AI be smart enough to make good decisions given the fact one of the most important factor (length of the game) is no longer a factor?

I think it just means that keeping your wicket becomes more dominant than most other elements, there are plenty of existing AI conditions for that to occur already.

Like I mentioned though, I haven't thought it through completely. Happy to have a discussion on it, wont make it into the game but into the first patch.

Fair enough but I thought in a cricketing AI most decisions are based on length of the game and the amount of time left in the game. When such an important factor, which I am assuming is used in making most of the decisions like bowling change or aggressiveness while batting or field positions, becomes non-existent AI has to be impacted adversely. Would love to know how you solved this conundrum, or maye you were successful in inventing the most advanced AI seen to date :thumbs

Its easy...write an entire seperate branch of code just for that mode where time is not a variable at all :D

p.s. that is why i studied electrical engineering, not computer.

Oh, I haven't solved it - just confident we can by the first patch.
