I have downloaded a few AI patches to try and improive what is a pretty shabby game, and, to be honest, if HB had produced a realistic game, the patchmakers wouldn't know it if they fell over it. Some of the patches are rubbish. I play 4/5 day matches for nearly the whole time, as it is the best form of the game by far. These patches that people have released appear to have been made by someone who has never seen cricket before. People seem obsessed with slowing down the outfield but speeding up the shots, when it should be the other way around. It takes AGES for a cricket ball to stop on the floor, not just grinding to a hault like these new patches. Some parts are good, such as there being more variation in the direction of defensive shots (such as dropping the ball down towards gully, etc.). If the shots were made less powerful, and the outfield faster, then there would be more opportunity for singles and the like.
Only when the ball is timed perfectly should the shot race away. The pitches all bounce too high, with good length balls going way over the stumps. The gravity needs to be reduced slightly however. More playing and missing when the ball is bowled outside the off stump would be nice. Also, the seam movement needs to be made more frequent, but a lot less violent. Getting the right amount of seam movement needs to lead to edges being taken. If the speed of the shots was slowed, there would be less edges going through fielders as sometimes happens. If somebody could make a patch for test cricket, with all of the above features, I would be most grateful.
If you lot have any opinions about this suggestion, whether you agree or think I'm a total ******, please post here. If there are more people like me wanting a decent test patch, then it is more likely to be made.
Also, if anyone could tell me how I go about making my own patch that would be good, becuase then I could shut up whinging and publish my own patch for you to moan about!
