Custom stadium not loading in career mode

I seem to be having a rather concerning issue. I am in the middle of a fairly long career and suddenly test matches in custom stadiums are not working anymore. Once the game loads I only see the ground with a city background. No crowd, no seats etc. I found a bug post in the bug thread but I am not sure that was seen. Has anyone else experienced this? I really hope there's a fix for this that doesn't involve restarting my career. I am on PC and have the latest version.
