Yeah, they were kept out on purpose. Realistically, none of the top eight Test sides would risk the fitness of their top players for a tournament like this. They only take ICC tournaments like the World Cup, World T20, Champions Trophy seriously, and everything else is a joke to them. And without these stars, the lesser known teams won't be completely outplayed either.

Updated again. We could well get to see a fair amount of upsets with the Steyns, Malingas, Kohlis etc missing from their respective squads, so don't refrain yourselves from signing up for teams like Scotland, Wales, Namibia, Guyana etc.
