Davison Cup 2023 - Coming soon - 1 team available

Goddamnit. :facepalm

So close, yet so so far. :/

I am shocked Babar and Rashid actually gave us a chance at all after that initial flurry of wickets. But still, the close loses are more painful than the one-sided ones.
You want to know how close it really was?

If the dice had rolled 1 number higher on the last ball, it would've been a tie

Montreal were 58/5 at one point and in the end they lost by 3 runs.

We didn't actually win. We just got lucky.

Overs 1-6 highlights:

1663183571626.png
Vancouver were off to a flying start with Paul Stirling and Mohammad Rizwan in the top and had made 56 runs in the first 5 overs.

Josh Little in his first ball of the second over gets rid of his countryman Paul Stirling with a great DRS review and then gets rid of Mohammad Rizwan in the very same over

Vancouver still managed to get 63 runs in the first 6 overs and will themselves ahead so far in this match

DRS used:

5.1: Given not out by the umpire, it didn't take much to convince Hardik Pandya to ask for a review. The replay shows that was the right decision as Paul Stirling was out and has to walk.

Overs 7-16 highlights:

1663184171455.png
Vancouver may be on the edge of their first loss in this tournament thanks to the bowling efforts from the Winnipeg bowling side.

Washington Sundar in his 2 overs managed to get 3 important wickets including that of Deepak Hooda

Vancouver was able to give Winnipeg a decent target of 172, they will need to reply on their strong bowling lineup to ensure Winnipeg have as difficult a time as possible to reach their target

DRS used:

8.3: Huge appeal from the bowler and the keeper as they are convinced they heard a noise. Umpire disagrees and Hardik has sent the decision for a review. On ultra edge, it is shown that there is a spike as the ball is close to the bat and Harry Brook has to walk. Another great review by Winnipeg.
10.1: Moeen Ali asks the umpire to take another look at his dismissal as he feels he didn't hit it. The ultra edge however confirms that there is a faint spike as the ball passes the bat and the umpires decision stands. Vancouver lose their first review

Overs 1-6 highlights:

1663184946385.png

A great start, just what Vancouver would've wanted, despite losing both their reviews.

Anrich Nortje takes two wickets to start his second over to give Vancouver a slight edge in the first 6 overs.

Winnipeg will need to keep batting sensibly if they want to win this match

Fall of wickets:

DRS used:

1.2: Loud appeal from Saad, and the umpire is not moving. Saad is the only one that seems to think he's got Rayyan, and convinces Moeen to take the review. The replay shows the ball was not pitching in line and Vancouver lose their first review.
4.5: That came in so fast and hit Rayyan on the pads, the fielding side was so excited for the appeal no one noticed the ball going to the boundary. Moeen takes another chance for a review but once again this shows the ball was not pitching in line and Vancouver have lose their second review

Overs 17-20 highlights:

1663185964709.png
This was just a formality at this point as Devon Conway hits the winning runs to give Winnipeg a 8 wicket victory over the unbeaten Vancouver.

By winning this match Winnipeg has opened the field for the semi finals, and while Toronto and Vancouver have qualified for the semis the other two slots remain open.

Montreal despite only winning one match so far needs a couple of decisions to go their way in the next round and have to win by a huge margin if they are to keep their hopes alive of reaching the semis.

I'm surprised no one has tried any substitutes yet. Just because they're rated red doesn't mean they are bad players.

Tails if we have to call

Hiral Patel is originally rated bronze and he's the second highest scorer for Regina.
Rashid Khan rated bronze got 71 runs last game... Just some things to consider.

Next year I'll have to change the rules that every player must play at least one match :laughter:
