Recently our college had a T20 match. Pretty much like the IPL, for the first time in an inter-college match, loud music was being played, even while the bowler was taking his run-up. ;)
I don't know what exactly happened to me then. I scored 42 off 18 and got out on the 19th delivery. This is probably my innings with the highest SR, considering a score of 30+.

Has anyone else from here experienced the same? I am sure this would be happening with each and everyone, or is it that I am too aggressive and immature in controlling my temperament. :p

I wonder how did you get the award for the best post contributor! :p

Anyway, I would love to read comments of those who actually play the game on a perfect 22 yard pitch and not of some lonely poor chaps.

In my opinion it doesn't and people need to....sorry, excuse me a moment.....FOR THE LAST TIME TURN THAT FLINGING GODAWFUL MUSIC DOWN BEFORE I COME IN THERE AND KICK SEVEN COLORS OF SHITE OUT OF YOU.....now, where was I, ah yes....

Pretty strange. Going with my experiences in the match, I didn't really expect anything other than a "Yes, it does" here. :p

Nonetheless, for me, it surely does.
Being an Indian from a small village where I was earlier, such small things (a li'l bit of music and some crowd) seem to attract me a lot. ;)

Its probably the cheers of the crowd. No bowler panting frantically is going to get an adrenaline shot from listening to Bad Romance or some Keisha crap.

Params7 added 2 Minutes and 13 Seconds later...

Though its not impossible I guess, it could depend on the music. I just remembered about heading to gym, and need to take my mp3 player along >__>

I'm deaf, so the music wouldn't affect my cricket. I always get sent out to umpire, too, which always leads to trouble...

Pretty much like what I feel. :)

If you're on the ganj; OH MOST DEFINITELY. Oh, and if this is somehow the case, listen to something more calming if you want be more of a grafter.

Its different for everyone, personally,i prefer peace and quiet before i bat, whereas someone else may want to listen to heavy metal beforehand. There is no definitive answer as to whether music affwects the way you play IMO

Some research has shown that certain types of may increase/decrease aggression, however, the opposite has also been observed, where music has had little to no effect.

If anything, it is not so much the music itself, but the number of beats per minute which has an effect. Music played at around 60bpm (which is close to the bodies natural) has been shown to have an effect on learning, whilst music at a faster bpm can cause people to become agitated. Slower bpm generally have a calming effect, although the results do depend on the person and other variables.

In the case of the OP many things may have occurred. It may have been that the music simply meant you were 'pumped up' and you responded in a positive manner. The music may have allowed you to concentrate on the bowler as it masked other distractions. As you can see, many different reasons can be given - why not try it again and see if you achieve a similar result?

i like to listen to the heaviest stuff i have (like YouTube - AIRBOURNE No Way But The Hard Way) before i go to cricket, it livens me up and makes me feel ready for action.

maybe it has something to do with how we like noise in the field

cos i hate silence, even if its a rare moment when ive just slaughtered the bowler with a shot so epic all they can do is stare. (it is a RARE moment :P)

iv got to hear osme chit chat or i feel under pressure.

i dunno, just a thought. :D
