Unfortunately that can happen, the plate tectonic movement is incredibly powerful, It moved the continents from the 'super continent' 300 million years ago, it creates the himalayas and makes them grow by year.

Plate tectonics have some advantages though, they move the UK away from the USA more and more each year.
