Collier urges rethink over TV rights.

Now that sounds to me like the ECB are maybe abit worried that they have made the wrong decision about sailing the sport down the river...

They will never get 7.7 million viewers (42% of the share) on Sky because that many people don't have it or can't afford it!

ECB did 'bad deal for the sport'

Now I would love it if Cricket was put back on the 'crown jewel' list. Should be there anyway, but there we go!

Thoughts everyone whom it concerns.

None of the terrestrial stations bidded (is it a word?) for the tests next year.

I am lucky enough to have Sky so it doesn't bother me that much, but i would like to see it on terrestrial because of benaud and Boycott :D

Channel 4 bid for the 2nd series of each summer, but Sky bid more.

The list of protected sports is ridiculous.

Surely England test matches are more important than a 10 minute event run almost solely for the benefit of the gambling industry (The Grand National) or a tournament in which British players choke on their way to the final (Wimbledon)

It used to be there as well. That's what's so ridiculous. Forget the pensions blackhole; the worst thing this government has done in office is remove cricket from the list in 98.
I've yet to meet a single person who doesn't work for the ECB who thinks this was a good idea. Even then I reckon most of them must realise deep down just how much they're going to damage the sport.

I read that article and I thought Collier was talking about the next TV deal starting from 2009 and that he wants terrestrial bidders for that. I dont think anything can be changed with the current deal from what I have read in the papers today but then again with what happen in India maybe the deal could be scrapped like the BCCI did with Zee TV.

It can be changed through legislation.

Interesting thing going on with Sky Sports and the Premier League at the moment. The EU are investigating that TV deal as it means that Sky have a monopoly on live Premiersship games. Hopefully a decision against Sky in that would have implications for international cricket rights too.

I saw about that very weird scenario, as long as MOTD carries on i'm not too bothered although super sunday is good fun. Only thing that annoys me with Channel 4 is when they switch to racing, i went to the filmfour bit and it said you are not subscribed.

Although it is likely that the EU will rule against Sky in this case, I think that Sky and the Premier League will appeal citing the good of the clubs as a non-exclusive deal would mean much less money and could be a disaster for some teams in the PL.

Could legislation apply to a deal thats already been done before the legislation was put in place though?

Its pathfetic by sky sports , they put football first , and they dont even show much international cricket apart from engand odi matches. Lots of football , but limited cricket.

To be fair, Sky do show alot of cricket when its on and its not there fault that the ECB are money grabbers. BSkyB is business, and like any business, it wants to be successful. Sky saw a chance and they took it, fair play to them. Just wish the ECB would stop saying it was for the good of the sport!

if you were an owner of a multi-sports tv company you would put football first as it's where you can make the most money.

There is a lot of cricket on SkySports i find, like the U-19s are on occasionaly which i doubt C4 would do.

Too much money in sport nowadays.

I think its harsh to say they dont show much international cricket. They show all Englands ODIs in Engand, all Englands ODI and Tests on tour, all Australian, South African and West Indies home tests and ODIs plus all World Cups and ICC Champions Trophys for the last 10 years!
