Editing 3D Head Shapes

Quite a few members around planetcricket.org have started editing faces for BLIC. But, we can't actually change the face shape, we can though by finding out how to export file into a 3D file. The face files do use 3D files as if you do replace one file with another it replaces the original face shape with the one you are replacing with.
I know that many others have asked for this, but I'm figuring out how it works and I do know how to edit the 3D files once I can get them. Please, can I have help from other people, it will be greatly appreciated :cheers!

EDIT : If this is confusing basically I am asking for people's help in editing the 3D templates as I believe it can be done with things that I have found.

How are you doing on this? I can't help myself (no art skills), but it'd be terrific if you could pull it off.

Well as soon as my computer is fixed I can get going, all I really need is one face file though. I will try experementing with them but I am saying that I can't do it on my own and I will need some help but once the file has been converted into a 3D file, I can edit it, I will start with Kevin Pietersen's hair :p

Have you actually managed to get hold of the 3d file or are you just saying that you know how to edit 3d files?

If you have managed to extract the 3d file from the head file I would be very impressed, but you haven't, have you?

Not yet no, but I'm looking at ways to do it! I'm emailing Codemasters, asking Sam how he managed to get the texture out of the head file and try to figure it out, and also use community help. This thread is basically finding out a way so that everybody can get the 3D file out of the head file and make really good heads that will be able to look more lifelike!

Ok. Well, I probably wouldn't start with the heads - I'd be looking for the simplest possible shape first. You'd probably have to write some converter to turn it back into 3DS format or whatever.

So when you said that honeydo, what "things" have you found?

Nothing.

Stop trying to make it sound like you have found something amazing when you clearly haven't.

Come back when you have something interesting to say.

My first thread is a little confusing but does explain that we do know for sure that there are 3D files in the head files and that all we have to do is get into the head files.
I know what I'm doing here and I am contacting those who may be able to help me, you really aren't.

You're not the first person to realise that the head shapes are defined in the "Filexxx" files in PlayerHeads.bag.

I emailed Sam some time ago about getting the other files out of the head files but have had no reply, but also didn't feel it necessary to make a thread asking for people's help on things which people can't help on as there is nothing to help with as yet.

If you know what I mean.

I do get your drift LC, I'm working undeground now :spy

Without swordfish's skinning utilities and exporters, even if you do get a Blic head into Max, Maya or A N Other 3d package, you won't be able to do a thing with them. Your best bet is re-texturing existing heads, trust me on this one. Heads are a heeeeeaaap load of work :)

They know how how to edit head files now as they have made an England face pack

Actually we have not edited any of the 3d head shapes, but used different heads for different face textures, to find a suitable combination and have a nice looking face .

Once you understand the model format well enough to decode it, encoding it again shouldn't be that much harder.
