England outplayed by new look French

Yeah but if you decide to exclude his best periods as a player of course he isn't going to look like he has played very well. Euro 2004 was 6 years ago, in that period England failed to qualify for the 2008 European Cup and have had 2 World Cups.

The 2010 World Cup he was clearly dogged by injury and fustration after a long season and basically played through any pain that was there for his country. In 2006, Rooney only started 3 of the 6 games and was the victim of THAT Ronaldo incident to get sent off.

So from the period of time you have taken, he has played in 2 major tournaments, one dogged injury and the other where he was barely even a part of the team.

Then you look at the qualifying period up untill the 2010 World Cup, possibly the time you completely decided to over look, which was seen as one of England's best qualifying peformance's ever.

So, yes when you do take out the best period of time of his career, and base it on one WC when he was injured and another when he wasn't even a part of the team your logic is seriously flawed. The England team isn't like the Premiership where you play 38 games a season and are able to go through good and bad patches and the team is built around you.

If we look at your logic then Messi must be rubbish as well.

Your argument is incredibly flawed.

Players like Phil Jagielka and Jordan Henderson were made to look awful when they were easily pulled out of position by the movement of the likes of Benzema and Malouda.

I think it was more that jags was pulled out of position by being played right back.

He has been poor all season for us. Not good enough to be played in his position for england let alone out of position.

And it wasn't just Rooney at the World Cup, it was the whole England squad. To lay the blame only at Rooney's door isn't fair - the whole squad were to blame, and of course the clueless manager. Inter are sniffing around him apparently - please, Inter. Do us a huge favour and take him! As Shearer said - even if all the players were fit, he wouldn't know what's his strongest 11 and what the best system would be. Shearer, unlike Capello, knows a bit about English football. ;)

Since we're having a go about players, what about Torres? He had an awful World Cup and his form so far this year hasn't been great. That doesn't suddenly make him a bad player - same goes for Rooney. @Lee - you've clearly got something against Rooney - maybe it's because he's a Utd player? :rolleyes

For me, if he's fit, he's first on the England team sheet because he's one of the only players we have who can grab a match by the scruff of the neck.

Capello is retiring after Euro 2012 and this is his last job, and I highly doubt Inter would want him anyway.

Please tell me the bit about Shearer was a joke.

Rooney being a man utd player has no bearing on my opinion of him, believe me when i say i think john terry is a big a tit as rooney if not more, i have no loyalty's to chelsea if i think the person is a disgrace, also i think jt is a spent force and very over rated aswell so the man utd thing has no call in this.

Alot of my hatred towards rooney is not all technically down to him, like i said before i think is just so over rated but thast is down to the media and the fans hyping him to a level he has never and will never be at like a messi or ronaldo.

I know i say alot of things on these forums that cross the line sometimes but i do not hate man utd in the slightest, im a chelsea fan but chelsea's results do not play that big a part in my life so my opinions are only based on the individual not his club, hope that clears the air.

You can't really hate a player because others around him rate him highly. It's not his fault if he's not at the level of Messi and Ronaldo, he quite simply isn't that good a player.

Yeah well 2 months ago he thought he was to good for man utd they were not up to his standards!!!

Right now i couldnt see him getting in the west ham side.

I can hate him for whatever reason i choose, free speech and all that.

Overated, Overpaid and generally a pathetic excuse for a man are a few decent reasons i would say.

You clearly didn't see him pulling the strings against Blackburn in our 7-1 demolition job?

Nope. Shearer played in the Premiership for years and had a great England career. I didn't say he knows about football management - just English football overall. ;)
