F1 Discussion

Alonso seems an interesting ride for him since the last couple of weeks.
Rosberg is actually annoying me. :p

Goodbye Caterham.

Best thing they did was to give André Lotterer his F1 debut.

I think the only way to make Formula One sustainable is to go down the route of having a set chassis, like in GP2. Perhaps if a specific team of engineers designed the chassis and aero packages for all, then there was a choice of customer engines for the teams that want to invest? Say, if all the teams were able to share the Williams chassis, and then they were to choose whichever engine they could afford out of the Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault power available? Because at the moment, the cost associated with developing an entire car is too much for any but the richest, most established teams to bear. That's why we've lost Hispania and Caterham, and why we will likely lose Marussia, Haas and perhaps Lotus or Sauber.

So 18 drivers for US Grand Prix. That's really sad.

Susie Wolff (6th women to take part in F1! !) 1ST since 1992 !

this double points thing at the end is stupid, as I understand it, under the normal points system, Hamilton would only have to ensure he finished in the top 6 to ensure the championship but with double points he will actually need to make sure he's in the top 2. I'm not great fan of hamilton but the idea that he'd lose the title after being the better driver all year on finishing 3rd (providing rosberg wins it) is just ridiculous. he's entitled to go out and drive a safe race after his performances this year, not put everything on the line again.

Alonso to leave at season end and Vettel to Ferrari...This is getting interesting
Hope McLaren goes for Alonso +Button

So true but I think both Mercedes guys will finish in Top 2 unless there are no reliability issues (hope not).

Hope we get amazing climax.

This is how VJM08 looks from Sahara Force India.

max chilton has made possibly the oddest career move ever

he's gone from f1... to indy lights!

this thread now covers all motor racing

Today is the Rolex 24 at Daytona - as of me posting there's 16 and a half hours left and there's a free stream from IMSA (the sanctioning body) here. Enduros are always fun because they are completely different to anything else in racing, especially one with the history of Daytona.

It's good to see that the teams are being good and creative with their liveries. With the news that McLaren are on the verge of buying out Marussia, we might end up with six cars in this style, and four more Red Bull-style cars. Liveries are such a superficial thing, but very important to the average fan.

I love the new Sauber car, though, and it looks like they might be a decent each-way for the Constructors' judging by their early pace and 1000/1 odds.

McLaren will change their livery according to me just before the start of the season.

Well Ferrari and Sauber are looking much better than they were in 2014. I hope McLaren can clear their reliability issues and show us what they are capable of but I think they might struggle till Bahrain atleast.

Since the first race of the season is a week and a half away (!); I've created a sportsbook event for the World Drivers Championship. Feel free to bet on who you think will be Champion; I'll keep this open and update the odds until the Championship is sealed.

Also I'm going to plug IndyCar in this thread: its IMO the best form of racing at the moment in terms of competitiveness and track diversity. Its the only open wheel series where they race on ovals and road courses; and last year I think all of the oval races bar Texas were amazing (the 2014 Indianapolis 500 was the best race last year in any types of cars). In the UK all the races are on BT Sports or ESPN; in America they're split between ABC and NBCSN; in India I haven't found any TV deals for 2015 but last year it seems it was on ESPN in South Asia + the APR, dunno how accessible that is. Because of the time differences the races don't normally clash directly bar Canada, which means you could watch it and F1!
