Graphite bat Gone

Like the ICC follow these so called laws for bowlers ;) They changed the law to suit bowlers, yet they ban a break through bat design. The ICC need to stop worrying about bats and start catching illegal bowlers and how about helping Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.

Like Murali? ;)

Zimbabwe need more than cricket governing bodies help. Zimbabwe cricket will go nowhere with the state of the country atm.

Theoretically, carbon fibre can absorb the shock from mishits, allowing the batsman to put more power on the ball. Exactly how much effect a milimetre of carbon fibre would have is debatable.

Why has Langers bat been removed? he uses a non-graphite one. a Belta, angryangry ponting said that the only reason for the graphite was to stop the back of the bat getting damaged ie from helmets in kit bags etc, at least thats what he said:p

Then you could use a removable piece of graphite, if it were to protect it in the bag.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but wasn't the latest game the last one that Ponting will be using his graphite coated bat? And wasn't it his highest ODI score? I know I might sound like an idiot suggesting that it is his bat, but he has really improved ever since he has used that bat. The ball flies miles whenever he goes after the bowling. Maybe it's just me, but it does look suspicious. I suppose Ponting's stats from now on will prove me right or wrong.

I'm curious what the ICC's opinion is of people who use fibreglass tape. It's preventing the bat from snapping in half, which is an unfair advantage over players whose bats wear and tear in regular fashion.

Just to clarify, they are only disallowed in Test matches right? Because I don't want to have to take the back off my bat just to play local club cricket.

Yeah it's just top level. Ponting was actually griping about how even though Kookaburra were supplying them with new bats, they'd be ripping the graphite off the ones they've got that they like, because it sucks to throw away a really nice bat.

This is similar to the Aluminium bats that were tried once upon a time. The laws state that bats can only be made of wood, so there should be no need to clarify this.

But that's the thing that sucks. The bats ARE made of wood, the Graphite stickers on the back are only there as protection.

Helmet and other things in the bag, Nets anything. My bat seems to get beaten up the back by everything. That's what Ponting said it was for.

I don't see how some graphite is going to give it that power, look at the meat on the bat, and the amount of grains. That makes it go so far.

If it's to protect the bat from getting damaged by other things in the bag then why does it have to be stuck to the back of the bat? Why not have a cover to put the bat in, with the graphite protection on that?

Most people including me are to lazy to put it in the bag / bat holder, then in then out etc. I'm not sure why they made the bat:p i didn't design it, Thats what its for i was told by punter.

That doesn't make much sense for a Pro. For guys like you and me I can understand it as you want to save your bat, but Pro's can get them replaced easily so it seems a bit pointless to me. If it's only protecting the bat, which I doubt, then there should be no problems with it being pulled.
