I was wondering if some of our Indian members could give me some general advice about Greater Noida and what there is to see and do there.

Also, can anyone offer any advice as to some other places to visit in India that are off the normal tourist runs, ideally something that will give a true taste of India.

Cheers

Nothing in greater Noida, don't go there lol. You've got whole Delhi in front of you to visit.

with all the cities in india.....why did you pick noida ??? :p
nothing much special there !

tourist or not, you HAVE to visit the Taj Mahal to get the taste of india !! ;)

i'd advice you NOT to go to goa. you'll find more white people and black people than indians lol :p

if you really want to get the feel of indians and their day-to-day life,
then travel in the "sleeper class" trains, goverment buses, take a tour around mumbai in the local trains :p say from thane to chruch gate ;) !
try eating stuff from the roadside vendors....namely "chaat" items, have your tea
from an irani hotel, dine at a highway dhaba etc etc :D

out of curiosity, how many days have you planned for touring india ??

India is awesome. I come here every year for my summer vacation. I'll look through some of my old travel brochures and pick out the best.
watch this spot!

i think the only thing of interest could be the Film City... not sure if its in greater noida... i think it is in NOIDA...

Should say that it's not for me but for a friend. He got placed in G. Noida by the charity he's working for and it a little peeved as there's nothing much to see or do.

As for the travelling then it may be for a month maybe longer. I may be joining him for a few weeks but it all depends on work etc. Failing that it'll be hang on to early next year and pop over to S. America for a little while.

Thanks for the advice so far, everything helps.

Hmm I haven't visited the Taj Mahal yet. And I only started using local trains this summer. There is so much in India that even a native finds a different side if they look hard enough.

I've not been there but Kerala is supposed to be beautiful and I believe not yet overwhelmed by tourists, but my information may be old. You will probably want to make a stop at a metro or two just to check it out (I would obviously suggest Mumbai! :p).

I would be wary of traveling around too much. You can always come back another time to see what you haven't. ;)

well, I hope my information can help you as I am a resident of India, firstly Noida is literally next to New Delhi city and hence I suggest you visit the capital than Noida as Noida is a mainly turning out to be a commercial place with multi-national companies choosing this place as their HQ in India so unfortunately there are very few, infact maybe no good attractions for visitors in Noida except for a few modern buildings that signify India's active role in globalisation! (I would also suggest you visit Hyderabad as it is a fantastic city with a great mix of Indian culture as well as the up-to-date living, you won't regret it! I live in Hyderabad too so we may be able to meet lol!!)

Enjoy your trip! :)
