Multan Sultans win Haier Cup Pakistan for the first time!
After having their legs cut out from underneath during a towering chase of 271, Multan Sultans make a remarkable recovery and go on to win the title for the first time.
Imad Wasim and Hardik Pandya are the two men responsible for putting up an insurmountable 120-run partnership for the 7th-wicket to rejuvenate the Sultans' chase.
For a batting order as esteemed as the Sultans', they certainly felt the pressure of the big game as they were marginalized to 142/6, mainly by Shadab Khan's legbreak.
Shan Masood's top-order stoicism was the only thing holding Multan together from a complete collapse, but he too was undone by Shadab's wizardry in the end.
Mohammad Rizwan, Steven Smith and Suryakumar Yadav faltered massively in Multan Sultans' biggest encounter of the season, entirely capitulating under pressure.
But that's where champions are born, under harsh adversity and calamity. Hardik Pandya capped off his brilliant season with a surprisingly well-composed half-century.
As he and Imad Wasim, the real hero of Multan Sultans' triumph, put on a match-winning 120-run partnership for the 7th-wicket to rescue their team from 142 for 6.
While Hardik Pandya lost his wicket right at the brink of close, Imad Wasim carried on until the job was completely done and finished with an unbeaten 59 from 61 balls.
Faheem Ashraf hit the winning runs as the Sultans were bailed out in the final by the strength and depth of their batting order, even against a side as balanced as United.
Babar Azam suffers yet another heartbreak as captain, whereas Mohammad Rizwan completes the comeback from finishing sixth last season to becoming champions.
