With power comes authority and with authority comes the added pressure. These are the words fitting for every person holding a respectable job and more so, when he?s being watched by millions of people and being judged for it- the person I?m referring to here is, Mr. N Srinivasan.

N Srinivasan is the head of BCCI-the body that runs cricket in India. If there?s one person that has seen the rise of Indian cricket, it?s this very man. The first 4 years of Srinivasan?s stint post taking over as BCCI chief can be labeled as near ?perfect?. The problem raised in the last year?s IPL when the world of cricket was hit by the ?match-fixing storm?. Chandila, Ankit Chavan and Sreesanth ? 3 players who got banned from playing cricket EVER again because of evidence that indict them having fixed IPL matches.

Once the fixing storm broke out, the Indian media asked many questions to Srinivasan and BCCI and then came the biggest shock of them all? Srinivasan?s son-in-law, Meiyappam and the son of renowned TV actor late Dara Singh, Vindoo Dara Singh were accused of having ?betted? in IPL?s matches, along with Rajasthan Royal?s owners i.e. Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Raj Kundra. A dark cloud surrounded over the credibility of this wonderful game, the viewer could not trust the game or its players anymore until this cloud cleared. For all, how could we know which match was/wasn?t fix but everything was under cover as of then, there was no evidence and the case was under investigation.

BCCI set up a panel to probe into the matter, this team later dissolved and the Supreme Court set up a new panel, under Justice Mudgal ? the report prepared by whom was named ?Justice Mudgal Report?. This report brought several people into question and cleared a few. In question now were Srinivasan?s son-in-law Meiyappam, who had earlier said that he was not the owner of CSK which the report declined and insisted that he was in fact the owner and along with him, under the scanner was Vindoo Dara Singh. The report cleared a few doubts over Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty and mentioned that they had placed bets but had no role in the fixing of matches by their ?3? players, whom I?ve named a few lines above.

After the report was submitted to the supreme court, Srinivasan was again in the lime-light but for all the wrong reasons. His credibility was at question because after all, his own son-in-law was involved in this betting scandal. No one was spared, not even the Indian captain, MS Dhoni. If matches were being fixed, perhaps the captain had a role too. These were just questions asked by the media to which the answers were few if not none. Dhoni was under scrutiny because he was and still is the VP of Srinivasan?s company, India Cements which perhaps raises a few doubts over his ?conflict of interest?. And of course then there were the photos of Sakshi Dhoni (MS Dhoni?s wife), sitting with Vindoo Dara Singh in one of the IPL match. We cannot allege anything as these were just photos and it?d be unfair to put aspersions without evidence.

Coming to today?s scenario ? the Supreme Court has very rightly investigated the matter and given a very fair judgment. Srinivasan has made way for Sunil Gavaskar to take over as the interim BCCI Chief and take responsibility until there is a fair probe into this highly crucial matter- which is highly significant for the clearing of the ?black cloud? that has currently surrounded the Indian cricket and the purity of the game itself for that matter.

The future developments in this case will prove to be extremely vital ? from a cricket fan?s point of view because we at the end of the day, just want a good cricket game without any questions being raised over it. Pure game it has been, pure game it shall continue to be.
