There are about 8 backfoot shots, about 8 frontfoot shots, a few 'pitch advance' shots and then you can leave the ball. Also there are some different shots you can play with the power button, like the reverse sweep (the only one I have found).

Hmmm to tell you the truth, I have forgotten. I don't own the game yet, I have hired it out a couple of times though. I'm pretty sure it was L1 (power button) and one of the north diagonals + frontfoot shot or backfoot shot.
