I am very fond of being ICC umpire,Can anybody tell me that how to Become ICC Umpire ,I live in pakistan If anybody can answer this with reference to Pakistan.

I don't know for sure but I imagine umpiring some local matches and rising up the ranks to domestic matches would be the way it works.

What is the highest level match you have umpired so far?

Yea I've got a mate who wants to become an ICC umpire and he started out by umpiring matches at school, then he moved to umpiring club matches and he's been fourth umpire in a few domestic matches now.

Well to become an umpire it only compels you to get used to with laws of cricket published by MCC and some practical knowledge.

Umpiring is just about getting involved. Obviously you need to know the laws, but the key is getting practice. Whether that be in your local league, an Under 12s match, or just standing in the nets while your mates bowl at each other, it's all experience.

Personally, I think it's something you have to go into with an open mind, because it's as much about knowing the rules as it is about man management and responding well to players. We all know what we're like when that LBW decision is turned down ;)

So in short, get down to your local club or school and volunteer. I expect they'll be happy to take a volunteer to help out at some level and see if you enjoy it.

You can also take a course to become a qualified cricket umpire. As has been stated your local association should be able to steer you in the right direction.

I'm a delight. Except for the one's that are hitting halfway up middle. Which is all of them :mad

Try checking the ECB/CA site for more on how to get into umpiring. To the best of my knowledge, you need to complete atleast 3-4 levels/exams in order to be considered by the ICC. It takes approx 5-7 years to rise through the ranks if you are very good.

Helpful thread guys :thumbs I don't think I want to be a top level guy, but I always enjoy umpiring my social games. And yeah that Tom Smith manual is a favourite of Richie Benaud - he's always quoting from it in commentary.
