Who's the better test bowler. And who's been more consistant over their respective career.

Fixed :p

Braod? Never heard of him. :p

I'd say they are pretty even but I'd say that Broad has the potential to be better.

Agree. But I kind of started this thread to see if anyone here actually thinks Broad's been better then O'Brien over the last year.

So England isn't a real country?

And the team Broad's beat up on (The West Indies) are they not included either when where talking about O'Brien?

Broad averages under 40 against two teams, NZ and the West Indies. And if we take out Broad's six wickets against Australia last week his average jumps to over 40 against them to.

I included O'Brien's stats against England and the West Indies. Take out his wickets against Bangladesh and his average goes up to 40.52, that's higher than Broad's average, by effectively 3 runs.

Are you honestly kidding me; Iain O'Brien was consistently brilliant in 2008.

You use stats way to much man, I'm pretty sure anyone who actually watches cricket would say O'Brien's been a heck of a lot more consistant then Broad.

I wasn't being exactly serious with my first post, and feel they're basically dead even. O'Brien performed well in 08 without being exceptional, and Broad's started to bowl with more consistency since late 08 into 09. O'Brien was the better bowler in 2008 as a whole, but if I was pushed to pick a guy for my team going by what I've seen over their Test careers, I'd go for Broad. May just be because I've seen more of him. They're very evenly matched.

But he was. Yes he may have picked up a few wickets against Bangladesh, but O'Brien has been fantastic since the England tour last year. Even in the Indian series he deserved better figures then what he finished with. For mine, Broad hasn't improved towards the level O'Brien has been bowling at over the last 12 months.

But my possible under-rating of O'Brien is probably due to my lack of exposure to him since that England tour. I didn't get to see much of NZ bowling in that India series, and also didn't catch all of the Aus-NZ series. Just from what I saw, he didn't look exceptional, good but not exceptional. Ignorance is always a good excuse for under-rating a player :D

Both are crap.

He was a bit lucky because they played 4 games against Bangladesh and found favourable seam bowling conditions in both England and Australia. Although consistent, he was only brilliant a couple of times. I think that sums up his bowling. There are bowlers who bowl a better outswinger or get more bounce and a lot of bowlers who are faster. He does a good job for what he's worth, but is stuck in the middle a bit.

Good blogger, though.
