ICC need to deal with India too.

what would be next, 5-5 tournament in case 20/20 failed. We already have a well established 50-50 format why mess it up.

It wouldn't, Why do you think it would?

It hasn't affected any of the domestic OD competitions in the countries it's been a huge hit in.

20/20 will be a part of future Internationl Cricket like it or lump it, it WILL be there.

BCCi can break away if they want, Packer tried the same.

The whole point behind it is that it has been a massive success at domestic level, at international level for friendlies has been a massive success, and yet despite all that India do not want a part of it.

The thing is India is one of few countries where Cricket really dominates.

Like Football does in Germany compared to other sports in Germany.

Are the Indians afraid that their players cannot cope up with the 20-20 ?
I don't think so cause they have some great players like sehwag ,yuvraj and others who can really whack the ball a long way.
I really don't see what the BCCI is playing at by not agreeing to a twenty 20 world cup.
True ,if India does not agree the ICC will not have its sponsors and the tournament would lose its value.
But what is it that the BCCI exactly wants?

It does not want to take part in the Champions trophy,no Asia cup ,no Twenty 20 and on top of it they want their own itinerary so that the TV right holders get their worth.
In short they do not want to take part in a competition started by Jagmohan Dalmiya.

Also if Twenty 20 is to be introduced people would actually take to it.
Indians like me and many others who are involved in sports can tell you that the Premier Hockey League that was started a year ago ( Power Hockey ) has been a success.
One more thing is,people would enjoy a 20-20 match rather than a 5 day ranji trophy. The Ranji in India has been forgotten by the public and it does not have anby value. Its not the same as the English county.

If domestic 20-20 in India would produce quality cricketers who can cope in ODI's and Tests, then ABANDON the Ranji trophy.

I'm sure it doesn't. 20-20 might produce interest among non-cricketing public, but will the interest sustain in them? to play 5 day games? You do not want to have 11 Afridi's in a team. If you have one, then the game will be alive and interesting. If you have a test match where the batsmen rule the roost, and just whack the ball...its not that interesting, is it.

That wouldn't happen anyway.

The fact is India have 2 options go with 20/20, or don't, if they don't they shouldn't be in anymore World Cups.

Cricket in India may not need to get bigger, but it does in many other countries.

I disagree that cricket NEEDS to get bigger in other countries, especially those that hadn't heard of the game before. I think the BCCI is less to blame here than our ever decreasing attention spans.

I just read the article, there is so many false allegations

The BCCI do not want the game to develop. They want to play Australia, England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka more than every other team.
India have played 76 onedays alltogether against zimbabwe, bangladesh, and kenya, England only 38.

Same story in tests, India played 14, England only 10.

where is the logic then??????

At the moment, they are the only test team to never tour Bangladesh for a test series.
India already visited bangladesh in 2004

Anyways back to the subject...why compromise on the identity of cricket just for the sake of cheap publicity??? If that was the case test cricket is doomed for sure. Lets get rid of it first, then find alternative to 50-50. Or are you guys in favor of 3 different formats???? I believe 50-50 format is the best so far, there is just enough room for everyone to contribute, whether bowler or batsman. 20/20 is bit too predictable and there is no room for defensive play and not to mention the embarrassment it will bring to bowlers. Bottomline is 20/20 will devour the true class of cricket and make it lose its uniqueness. You cant promote a game unless your team wins, 20/20 is good at domestic level for quick results but not International.
Did NBA reduce the height of basketball net so everyone could dunk?? If golf could survive why not cricket.

We dont adapt to their needs, either they could play the original version of the game or switch to baseball.

Baseball! Baseball is infinitely more boring than cricket. You watc 9 innings, and a home run may be scored. Many of my friends here also show apathy against baseball! Anyhow.

The first bit has got more to do with the fact that India always play more Cricket than anyone else especially England.

Original version?

So you really think starting countries out on 5 day tests will get them involved?

that is for starting countries, Australia, England, SA, SL, India, Pakistan et al, are not starting countries. Then what is the point in a 20-20 WC?

If u have one between US, Canada and other countries which are not active in cricket, it makes sense. There is enough energy in the test playing countries to attact crowds from within.

Because it get's more people interested and thus potentially increasing more cricket players, ad maybe finding a cricket legend.

Plus more money in the game for some of the smaller clubs in England (Sussex, Gloucs, etc) the better facilities they produce.

People always ridicule the things they don't understand. Its the same with my American friends and cricket.

^ Are you suggesting that Americans don't understand baseball? I was talking about my friends here, in Houston.

This is my last post in this discussion because my posts are getting deleted. Anyhow.
